I think that was the point though. Like Megatron took Megatronus' s name, so too did BW Megatron take the name of a feared and powerful figure from Cybertron's past.

Agreed. For instance Hitler was known for his admiration of Frederick the Great and he often called his Nazi regime the "third empire" obviously alluding to those that came before, but even so, he had every intention of besting and surpassing even Germany's previous heroes.

BW Megatron similarly probably had a good deal of respect for G1 Megatron but had always envisioned himself as surpassing his namesake and perhaps making the name Megatron his own more than the original.

You think? Maybe in Portugal, I dunno.

Pistols aren't anything special. I doubt very much that the range and/or accuracy of a Beretta is much better than any Walther designs.

And as for other WW2 designs still in use, the M2 Browning and MG3 immediately spring to mind. By armies with LOTS of cash.

It's way I'm sort of glad Megatron's first alt was something they were unable to dexterity re-visit, at least in fiction. It forced them to do something distinct with him. Prime on the other hand.... He's had what? Two altmode in fiction? Tractor trailer cab and Firetruck. And the last time they did fire truck they used so little of the firetruck he may have well been a Tractor trailer cab!

Primal, even though he was first developed as just being the original Prime was distinct, the only blatant call back to Prime's classic look in the Ultra ape is the head. But that's IT. I guess they feel that since kids tend to prefer good guy toys Prime staying "on message" is more important then Megatron. At least until the age of nostalgia kicked in...

Someone should have Megatron be a triple changer similer to his Murader Megatron prototype figure in the Allspark Almaniac.

Even as a child of the 80s, I found megatron's gun mode beyond silly. Toy was silly coz it gave the robot a huge codpiece, which as a 7 yr old boy I found sooooooo funny... Add to that the skinny legs, insanely tiny face but huge head, and he's the dumbest looking of all g1 toys.

Animation further proved the concept to be stupid. A self-reliant dictator who rules with fear, turns into a tiny gun for his most traitorous officer (starscream) to fire. One squeeze and it's king scream, dead megatron...
