I seriously like Beast Wars all the way through. Watched it religiously when it aired. I did not like Beast Machines at all though. However, Beast Wars was the most fun for me when the Transmetals story line started because I did not like the all organic Beast modes and the Transmetal toys were great in my opinion. I especially liked the whole G1 integration stuff with the Ark and Ravage. Tarantulas and Inferno are my favorite characters. "For the Queen!" ....and the serious also gave use Megatrons very sinster, "Yeeessss." :thumb  Got to love it. We never actually got to see Silverbolt and Black Arachnia's robo-hook up though :lol

After the credits? Say what? I was referring to the scene where Waspinator was being worshiped by the proto-humans. Is there a scene after the credits?

That's true. I can already tell there's a good story and an air of mystery around it, which I like. And yes, Vehicons have pretty cool designs. In fact, a while back, long before I ever thought I would watch Beast Wars, I bought BM Tankor off eBay because he looked so darn awesome.

Sorry no extra scene. I just remembered Waspinator's scene happening after the credits.

Season 2 started in late October too. That was an annoying new occurrence in the late '90s- shows premiering in late Oct/early Nov. Usually premieres ranged from early Sept to mid Oct at the latest but in this timeframe, The Simpsons started premiering late, X-Files did too, Beast Wars as well. The first two had the excuse of Fox not wanting the MLB postseason to interfere with their scheduling. Beast Wars... what was its excuse? It was syndication.

Many people did not like Beast Machines initially. I was looking into the history of Beast Wars and its reception from internet fossil beds and it goes something like this:

    * Transformers is back! They have organic shell beast modes.
    - Yay! (start watching immediately)
    - Heresy! (do not watch yet)

    * Beast Wars shows Starscream, or Unicron.
    - It's tied to G1! (start watching from this point)
    - Still doesn't excuse beast modes & any hint of organic even if just a skin/hide (do not watch yet)

    * Beast Wars has a developing story arc (late Season 1)
    - This is getting interesting (start watching from this point)
    - Still not car robots. Not good enough (do not watch yet)

    * Transmetals! (Season 2)
    - They got partial vehicle modes and they got chrome. Good enough for me (start watching)
    - Still refuse to budge (do not watch yet)

    * "The Agenda" has Ravage!... and Megatron!... and OMGWTF did they do to Optimus Prime?!
    - I gotta start watching this show (start watching)
    - Not good enough. Ravage isn't supposed to speak or look like that. Even by showing deference to G1, it's still not car robots (never watch)

Points 2-4 seem to have won over many of the holdouts. I was surprised how many people resisting the show seemed to give in before "The Agenda" which was the obvious point of concession to G1 fans and the writers' efforts to tie the series to G1. "The Agenda" did win over some (but not all) of the most resistant holdouts. "Code of Hero" did too and "Transmutate" in a way too (quality writing).

Beast Machines... many gave it a chance, but were horrified by "I am transformed!". I like how each character has their own light though. It won over some people with its arc in Season 1/4, the Cybertron setting, but it alienated people with techno-organic forms, Nightscream, and the transformation debacle, not to mention multiple character assassination. Season 2/5, it lost all momentum from earlier even despite the transformation debacle being over. I recall reading about a lot of people who just lost interest.

In terms of ratings, it was the 2nd highest rated cartoon on Fox in Season 1 but in Season 2 the ratings completely crashed and it was cancelled 3 episodes into the season but they did air the remaining episodes on schedule but pulled the series a few reruns past its series finale.

    As for the new designs-
    * Optimus Primal- the silverback gorilla looked excellent, but his robot mode looked rather crappy.
    * Cheetor- Both are excellent. Cheetah mode looks good, and his robot mode is his best yet.
    * Blackarachnia- Robot mode is ugly with the super-high forehead. Beast mode looks nice even though she looks modelled off of a harvestman more than a real spider. Works good for the basement/sewer/cave setting the series has.
    * Rattrap- Horrendously bad. Robot mode looked horrible. They took a Misery-style sledgehammer to his legs because Skir wanted a disabled character. As for his beast mode, let's see... he went from a cute mouse-like rat to a chrome-played hot rod rat to a dirty, mangy looking punk rat that looks like it might be carrying the plague.

By the time you finish this series, and the next time David Kaye is at a convention near you, (maybe TFCon?), you'll have the urge to bow down and declare "my lord, Megatron."
    :D

Cool, before season 1 ends, you'll be buying yourself some Tank Drones as well. Maybe some Cycle Drones too. Unfortunately, the best Air Drones are the ones that McDonald's had in their Happy Meals. :p

Awaiting your comments for the next 3 episodes, yessssss....
    (especially ep 6)

It does have the kind of feel of an after-the-credits scene, but I think as common as that is nowadays, it wasn't so big back then before super hero movies and the like popularized it. Kids really couldn't have been counted on back then to stick around after the credits, and on TV often credits would get truncated and pushed to the side or bottom of the screen and the channel would show commercials.

The most agonizing part was how Pt3 ended......
"And you....YOU NO LONGER EXIST!!!" The End..??

For the longest time I thought that really was the end, until I came home from work and checked my VCR, (I taped the show daily) and saw the new intro.......

The only bad thing about Agenda, Part 3 was how disappointing the conclusion was. It took about five minutes for them to fix everything. Part of the reason I tend to prefer Other Voices as a finale is that the follow-up season opening episodes are equally epic, while Optimal Situation always just felt like "Oh, that was it? Well, alright then."

My big gripe about BW is that they got rid of two characters in an extremely casual fashion at the start of season 2. I get that they wanted to introduce new characters, and wanted to keep the sides balanced, but it was really shoddily done (no death scene, no mourning, etc.) and at least one of the characters was fun.

I agree that Scorponok and Terrorsaur could have used a little more of a send-off and at least just more talk about the fact that they were dead, but... I was still basically fine with it. They were two very unimportant characters, and the Predacons really aren't the type to mourn their fallen comrades. As for death scenes, I mean... we did see them die. They fell into lava. Now, why that killed them and didn't kill Megatron and Tarantulas in Master Blaster, I don't know.

I always took it as the Transmetal bodies could survive more harsh treatment.

I don't have any issues with the sudden death of Scorponok and Terrorsaur. Their deaths is like how a real war is, here one moment and dead the next if you are unlucky.

Yeah, and as we saw, they were turning into transmetal as they were sinking into the lava.

I think the writers gave themselves a way out if they wanted to bring them back.

I'm thinking they died in the lava because they would've been out cold at the time (like Rattrap and Cheetor when they became Transmetal) and couldn't get out of the lava in time like Tarantulas and Megatron.

I agree they did, but I also think that none of the writers really... wanted to bring them back. With Tarantulas the more interesting and competent treacherous Pred and Inferno the more interesting and competent loyal Pred, they'd become obsolete.

I think it'd be cool if somehow in the lava and in their transmetallizing state they like... fuzed into one monstrous being and came back to seek revenge... but I'd want that wrapped up in an episode because I really don't care about Terrorsaur or Scorponok...

Yet people still complain about Prime Breakdown.
