Grimlock: Dumb or Smart?

Do you like Grimlock, or any other Dinobot for that matter, as an animalistic broken-English robot or as smart as the average Transformer?

It won't make too much a difference, it's still Grimlock leader of the Dinobots. He's awesome no matter what his IQ.

I like not-so-bright Grimlock from the cartoon. To me he has more charm that way.

Grimlock is smart.
Its his intelligence that keeps him on the autobot's side. He has stong opinions and leads with them.

I don't agree with the season 3 characture depiction of the character.

I prefer them less intelligent than the rest, but not monosyllabic.

I admit that his doofy Cartoon depiction is probably his most iconic and endearing incarnation... however I still prefer him as he is supposed to be. Blunt, stubborn, loud, but still with a certain amount of intelligence and cunning.

For me the best interpretation has been the old Dreamwave approach that managed to accommodate both versions to a degree. Grimlock is smart, but has some kind of programming tic or glitch that messes with his vocal processing... a permanent speech impediment that links him to his cartoon self. Sounding dumb does not necessarily make him dumb.

I like the dumbness from seasons 1-2 since it adds some charm to them. Season 3 ruined Grimlock, it made him too dumb.

Dumb Grimmy was fun, but I like the idea that he's strong as fuck, AND intelligent.

Smart. I like his Marvel comics version the most. Pity they felt the need to add his dumb cartoon speech pattern as the title went on.
