Why did G1 end?

I remember they planned a 5th Season and I also remmber at the end of Rebirth Galvatron is talking with Zarak about his plans for constructing a bigger planet 10 times bigger then Cybertron and that he will rule as is his destiny, but where was he going since he was leaving Cybertron perhaps Earth? But that's not the question I am asking, the question I am asking is why did they canceled the 5th Season and put and in G1 in the States, what happened?

If I'm not mistaken, it was mostly because of poor toy sales. The toys weren't selling, so they decided it was time to end the half-hour commercials.
