You're nuts. She loved Starscream until we watched that episode "Countdown to Extinction" where Screamer wanted to blow up the Earth.

And truthfully, I watched Beast Wars just to see the G1 characters. I watched the entire thing because I have a lot of time on my hands. My current job consists of me sitting on my ass for 10 hours with a bunch of old farts waiting for an outage to happen.

Ok, that sounds awesome. I'm with you as far as G1 > everything else, and think every TF fan should respect it as the genesis of the franchise.

Just be glad Hasbro isn't pulling Lucas by taking G1 and literally editting and changing everything to something they feel is better, because that would really be messing with your (and my) childhood heroes.

How many times do people have to be told Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime are not the same entities? Even with the similar names they are not the same lifeforms. Is it really rocket science? so hard to comprehend?

They were intended to be the same back in '96. Things were changed somewhere down the line. I was there to hate on Beast Wars back then too, except there was not much of an Internet to vent my frustration on.

Nope. Back in 1995, during the initial sketching out of ideas, this was raised, but before the series was made it was quickly shot down.

The G1 show hasn't aged well. As children, we all pretty much agreed that it was an awesome show. But nowadays? Eh, not so much. The writing in a lot of 80s cartoon shows was fairly poor and Transformers was an example of that. I'd say it didn't truly evolve until the mid-90s with Beast Wars and others. However, judging G1 at this point in time is a lot like judging videogames from that very same era. It's sort of unfair. The standards were somewhat lower, the technology being applied wasn't nearly as advanced, etc.

As an adult, I find G1 - despite it being a sacred cow among the fandom - to be just as silly as it is significant. When you think about David Wise and his penchant for recycling plots, AKOM's cheap animation, and some of the silliest examples of cartoon logic ever...you have to be thankful that there was more to G1 than just the show. After all, it was just a vehicle to a popular and innovative toyline. Also, the comics were much better by comparison.

The G2 cartoon was as close as we ever came to that. The G2 cartoon gives me headaches. It's not eye-friendly.

Then this fact should have been made clear in that first episode. But the guys that cobbled Beast Wars together knew the show wouldn't stand a chance if it didn't ride G1's big fat nuts. Which, I guess is the reason why they had to use Optimus and Megatron's names on 2 completely new characters. Both as undeserving of those names as Beast Wars is undeserving of the name "Transformers".

True, but at least G2 didn't completely replace G1 as far being sold via DVD or Blu-Ray. Can you even get the G2 series?

Georgie's New and Improved Star Wars is now the only version available on Blu-Ray.
    Which makes this ironic:

Some may say Adam West Batman came close. Even if it was the Sixties.

I don't know about anywhere else but five episodes of G2 got a UK DVD and (I think) VHS release. I do kinda wish more G2 episodes were given home release as even though it's hard to watch it's still a part of TF and I'd like it in my collection as a different version of a show I know so well.

Yup, This. I'm 29, and grew up with it. I know it has some faults, but why back trash it. MANY things from back then had issues, does that make it bad now?

X-men 1, and Spiderman one are barely 15 years old, and THEY have issues and look dated compared to Avengers. Does that make them bad? NO (beyond inaccuracies, but thats for comic threads)
