David Kaye needs to come back to revoice Megatron.

I don't enjoy Japanese storytelling much, so no. I mean, older child targeted things aren't bad, but the term 'drivel' applies marvelously here. The toys had a few winners from each line. Cybertron had an abundance as I recall. So it's a mixed bag for me. Horrid fiction, with a few notable toy milestones to bridge the gap between Beast Wars and Classics.

i liked them all fairly well, but i think that they should have kept cybertron as a seperate storyline from the rest of the unicron trilogy

"Oh, sure. Don't mind Waspinator. Waspinator just lie here and suffer. Drag himself to CR tank..."

I absolutely love RID. It's what got me into Transformers in the first place.

As for this "Unicron trilogy"...I...can't stand the use of that term. Armada and Energon fit with each other, but Cybertron does NOT. The only thing that really carried over to it was the death of Unicron, but that is it.

Anyways, I like Armada and Energon, and kinda like Cybertron. I'm not real big on any one of them though. Which is why I would never buy any of them on DVD, but I wouldn't be upset if I were to receive them as gifts.

I enjoyed them all, in some capacity.

RiD: Good and goofy, and fairly standard anime fare. I liked it better for the characters than the stories.
Armada: Better toward the end. You had to have some endurance to get past the first third of mediocre episodes (or skip 'em altogether)
Energon: Wasted potential out the wazoo. Starts off promising, but loves to wipe out its interesting stuff and replace it with cardboard. Lackluster CGI. All that, and the series lasted about 13 episodes longer than there was story to support it.
Cybertron: Solid performer, Doesn't come close to the highest and lowest points of the previous series, but plenty decent, though the full-shaded CGI mixed with 2D animation is kinda off-putting. The overuse of "Burning justice and willpower overcomes ANYTHING!" got on my nerves too.

I may be misconstruing your statement (you may only be referring to the UC), but I wholeheartedly disagree in the case of RiD. The new molds of that line (which, admittedly, only account for maybe a third of the toys) used a degree of detail and level of articulation that surpassed even a good proportion of the Classics toys. I don't want to repeat my X-Brawn rant, but, in short, those toys (specifically the Car Brothers) had nigh-photorealistic alternate modes (they could easily have been made into licensed modes if TakBro were desiring to shell out the dough), unique, interesting robot modes (this, however, can be either a good point or a bad one depending on aesthetic preferences), and, as an added bonus for play and realism, opening doors, storable weapons, and a host of other little details that are rare even today.

I will concede that RiD may have had, well, anime-tastic fiction (although I stand by my first rant in saying that it is FRIGGING RAD), but the toyline, in my opinion, was a shining example of the greatest extent of toy design possible in its age, and difficult to fault considering it was concieved only as a link between the Beast Era and the Unicron Trilogy.

Well my favorite Transformers cartoon is G1. It's the one I grew up with and I have a lot of love for that series. That said I liked the RiD series when it was aired, but it hasn't aged well. I don't care for it too much anymore. I never liked the Unicron trilgy. The reason I mentioned G1 at the beginning was that was my favorite show and to be honest it hasn't aged well either. It's my love for the series and nostalgia that keeps it good for me. I think the only Transformers series that has aged well is Beast Wars, though I think Prime will age pretty well too.

See, I loved the car brothers. Maybe not Speedbreaker.. but at least he looked good in vehicle mode. Magnus was THE Transformers standard for me, too. But the rest of the line was kinda garbage. Old repaints for the villains, aggravating individual figures for the trainbots, and ye God how I wish I could've just kept the core figure to Optimus and threw his armor mess in the trash. So yeah, RiD fit in perfectly with my description of 'a few key milestones surrounded by crap.' I wish everything could've been as fantastic as Magnus, Wildride, and Mach Alert.

Meanwhile Cybertron gave us a fantastic Optimus, Vector Prime, the CDF, and a motif set across small bands of figures that made them almost feel like different lines. And there was a winner among each of them (if not more). At this time I was learning to be more choosy in my collecting habits, but there were few clear losers.

That's more than I can say for Armada/Energon. Aside from a couple particularly well-done minicons, not a damn one holds up to my standards the way that the aforementioned figures do. If I had to pick a winner from each, Armada Hoist and Energon Divebomb. Those would be the sole high points of their respective series.

I feel like Sideburn gets a little bit too much flak. I only recently got one, and, while his transformation's notoriety is deserved, both modes look fine. His legs are a little skinny, and his lack of nostalgia value for me keeps him firmly in last place among the trio in my opinion, but he is quite a fun and well designed figure.

I know I'm in the vast minority here, but I really didn't like the Cybertron line that much. A lot of people cite that prime as "the best figure of the decade", but I really don't see how that's deserved. I prefer my Transformers as puzzles, with complex transformations (I love me some Big Convoy). I also, having grown up on Beast Wars and RiD, don't really like the whole "chunkiness" aesthetic, and, although the films themselves were absolute crap, I really, really like those sort of more natural looking robot designs.

RiD Prime's armor, while admittedly frustrating, took "super modes" in a direction that I really, really feel should have been taken, a direction whose abandonment I resent. Cybertron Prime's "super mode" is essentially boots and a jetpack, while RiD prime actually becomes a new robot, with a new head, and an entirely new look.

And, while there was definitely an abundance of repaints, the choice of molds they used was great: they took a couple Beast Wars Transmetals who all, through their repaints, gained entirely new personality, and G1 Bruticus, who, most would agree, is AWESOME. Of course Rail Racer's individual robots are forgettable, combiners usually have to make sacrifices, and considering how involved the transformation into RR is, the fact that none are outright terrible is an accomplishment in itself.

And have we completely forgotten Megatron/Galvatron? TEN MODES! His Robot mode is great, his (two headed) dragon mode is good, and none of the others end up looking like simply a folded up robot. Take a look at the two most recent Triple Changers: Universe Octane and Animated Blitzwing: they had a third of the modes Megatron has, and for both, one of the modes was absolutely terrible (Octane's robot mode and Blitzwing's tank mode), and another was at best mediocre(Octane's two altmodes, actually, and Blitzwing's robot mode).

I'm afraid we're just set to disagree then. It seems that every point you've made I feel contrary to. A) I hated TM2s, B) I hate supermodes in general, C) I believe Megatron's 10 modes looked like a jumbled mess of nothing, and D) I loves me some bulky robot aesthetic.

I can't fault a man for his tastes, and since you've dfended your choices with logic instead of calling me a poopy head, I'll return the sentiment. Enjoy your robots the way you like 'em. That's why we have diversity.
