Well, I don't think AS necessarily means there was inappropriate, uh, powerlinking. I think the term "Platonic love" tends to see some meaning-writedown in everyday use, where people often use it to mean "casual friendship". AS is probably arguing for something weightier than that (incorrect) usage.

I think it would be most correct to say that Alexis was Starscream's conscience, the person that just has to say the troublesome things a person knows quite well but doesn't want to hear. Don't we all have someone like that? That sort of thing isn't a romantic relationship, but it certainly can be as difficult as one.

Honestly, one of the reasons I enjoy the Transformers mythos is because there isn't a lot of "romance". Romance is a subject that's well-trodden, and there are other stories that tell it better anyways. I'm perfectly content with two humans who happen to share the story with the Transformers (like Sam and Mikaea). Beyond that, I'm completely uninterested, and it's something I don't want to see.

That's essentially true. Alexis treated her friendship with Starscream like a sibling (or even parental) relationship more than a casual friendship. But I'm sure Autobus was objecting to the relationship being implicitly interpreted as romantic. That implication was clearly suggested by the statement he was responding to.

I think that says a lot about why we're even having this conversion. There are a lot of people out there for whom everything is about romantic relationships. That's what gives things meaning to them, so if it's missing from a story, then either it's wrong and broken, or they find it in places it isn't supposed to be. The idea that there's a lot more to the experience of life and interpersonal relationships is quickly and disdainfully rejected, if it's even considered at all.

That and some people are just lonely.

The gist of what I was getting at was that there was nothing BUT a platonic relationship between them. And I agree on the conscience idea.

However, AS didn't explain themself enough to get anything other than "awwww, young love" out of it. And let's face it, the only difference between a friendship and a relationship is intercourse, when you strip it down to its bare essentials. Granted you can have intercourse without a romantic relationship, but I guarantee you that you can't have a romantic relationship without intercourse. If you did, one or both of the spouses would be having intercourse without a romantic relationship while the other is at work.

You can have a romance that never involves intercourse for whatever reason. What you can't have a romance without is sexual tension. I know some people will want to object to even that much taint on the spiritual purity of romantic love, but it's true. It is not a coincidence that even celibate romances conform to the sexual orientation of both parties. If there wasn't a sexual element, we'd see same-sex straight couples all over the place.

What is this I don't even

Wait, how does one read "romance" in Armada Starscream/Alexis' relationship? Friendship, kinship, kindred spirits, sure. But romance?

Threads like this give me an aneurysm.

There is nothing "mature" about finding vicarious substitutes for relationship needs in non-canon wish fulfillment fantasies. Especially not when it involves giant robots.

Definitely won't fight you with it not being mature. I think most of the TF fangirls keep the shipping ways to specific mediums such as RP or FF.net lol. We try to not scar you guys for life.

It's a crack part of the fandom really. As long as it's not taken so seriously it's no big deal. The guilty pleasure fanfic every once in awhile is fine. But I do see you point. There is nothing mature about it.
