I grew up with a version of the book wherein the cassette story was COMPLETELY different than what I've heard on YouTube and read about in the synopsis on TFWiki.

In the tape I have (which is voiced by a full cast, but none of the voices from the show), the Autobots team up with a human named Steve Guymo to stop a plot by the Decepticons to pose as passenger planes and kidnap civilians to hold as hostages.

Does anyone know the origin of my tape? It still says "Sun Raid" on the cassette, but I can't find any reference to this story ANYWHERE.

On the tape: "Written By Dr Z"
Copyright 1985 Hasbro Bradley, Inc Pawtucket, RI 02861 USA All Rights Reserved

The reverse is blank, so as to record your own voice and story.

That sounds interesting! Does it have the same voice cast as Sun Raid?

"Dr Z" also wrote the G.I. Joe "Cobra's Revenge" Colorform.

I wonder if that explains why the cover of Sun Raid has the Seekers hassling a passenger jet when there isn't one in the story...

Any way you can record it to a digital format?

If only F-15s were passenger jets!

I'll give it a shot if my schedule eases up soon. Kind of want to anyway, since it has a lot of sentimental value to me (I grew up listening to it), and I don't want the tape to degrade.

Also, I just might have a collector's item on my hands...

I know! In the story, the seekers actually use outer shells over their alt modes to impersonate jumbo jets. It's their downfall, since (spoiler alert) someone welds Starscream into his too tightly, and he can't get out to transform for battle when the Autobots attack!

It doesn't sound like it. Also, it features interpretations of the theme from the TV show, which I'm not sure if Sun Raid does.

Oh yeah- and that was a good observation about the passenger jet on the cover. It is indeed an illustration from this story. Also, the Colorforms feature Jazz (who is central to my tape but doesn't appear in Sun Raid), and Steve Guymo (a bearded human in a jumpsuit).

The original tfwiki entry about Sun Raid has a short sentence about the jets story, but when I got ahold of the Cliffjumper story and posted it to youtube, they changed it to match, figuring someone just made up the jet story. I guess there are TWO stories. Love to hear the second one.

Take a look at the tfwiki archive from early 2009...

There seems to be one of the Dr. Z. copie son ebay, and it does not have a Cliffjumper packed it.

I suspect that early description was based purely on the artwork available (the cover and some interior art featuring Jazz) rather than that the author had listened to the Dr Z version.

I've been migrating my audio books to BitChute, so the Colorforms version of Sun Raid is now here:
