Indeed, that's why it best to just have fun with it; after all that is what Hasbro intended it to be, I thought. :)
(So long as silliness like Erector aren't a reoccurring thing :thumb )

I honestly kind of wish Erector won last year (even though I fucking hated the thought). It was definitely a joke campaign to a certain extent, but there were a lot of members who made a compelling argument for him. The tribute video for Erector at the HOF was a masterpiece. It just would have been cool to see him in the hall and see how Hasbro would treat the character from that point.

We can back our candidates with whatever slogans we want, dick jokes or TFCC punches, but the characters are what really matter to me. This way I have a ton of fun with the process, but my vote is always legitimate and thoughtful.

So, vote for BW Megatron and throw a few Swindle's way.

See I sort of disagree with that. I mean, clearly, all joking aside Erector was not "Hall of Fame" Material, and the fact that Hasbro went along with it and even made the bio for him showed they were good sports about it, but see, when it was an original one-time joke thing, it was funny and acutally kind of cool that Hasbro was cool with it. The damage is that now, I won't even relaly read the HOF threads after I vote because there are a ton of people pushing their "Third-tier reject character that everyone else will think is funny", and it's played out. (I'm surprised I've been commenting in this one so much, I just have a soft spot for BW Megatron...even though I didn't vote for him). And don't try to tell me that you REALLY think these characters should be in the hall of fame, because everyone knows that you don't really believe Discharge, Windbreaker and I dunno, Douche-e-tron should really be a HOF candidate. Every time someone does that, I think it cheapens the Erector joke and makes it more irritating than funny, Whatever (I think this is the longest post I've ever written on here....strange)

I have to reword what I initially wrote because you bring up good points. I agree with you that it would have been cool if it were truly a one time thing, but you're kind of right, we are going to be seeing a lot of "third-tier characters."

I don't know why I post in the HOF threads as much as I do either. The first year of the Hall was magical IMO, but with all of these auto-inductees that incorporate all of the characters with said name just water it down for me personally.

Quite well put mate, I agree - It's the characters that really matter and hence should be treated with at least an ounce of respect. :)

I sort of agree, Hasbro were willing to take a joke once but they clearly take it a lot more seriously than what some may think; It's a pity they didn't release said HoF Video though, I hear it was indeed really well done and quite funny. :(

I'm all for fun but I think candidates should have their nominations based on honourable merits and not complete silliness.
(Sounds a bit White-Knighty doesn't it?  - I prefer the Black one personally  )

This brings to mind another reason one should Vote for BW Megatron; So long as you get the job done, he wont mind a bit of fun! :D

The thing is, it seems that if every year we do this stuff, Hasbro's going to start rolling their eyes and thinking that we aren't taking this seriously, and if that's the case, why would they keep doing it? I'm not one of those saying this is definitely going to happen, but I can see them (Hasbro) thinking this is more trouble than it's worth if the fans are going to be jackasses about it and write these (bullshit) stories about how when they were a kid Tote was their favorite character and yadda yadda. I just think if that happens, it will suck because a lot of characters, voice actors and writers/toy designers that we'd like to see get in, ( I refuse to use the word 'deserve' anymore for fictional characters) won't get in over stuff like that. I dunno, that's my my fear on where this is going...that and as I said, I just don't think "Vote for (insert no-name hack here)" every year is funny anymore.

Solution: BW Megatron and Optimus Primal are inducted this year into the HF under their namesakes, complete with their own ceremonies. This way they get their own tribute while still counting as part of the collective Megatrons and Optimii. Fans happy, Hasbro gets to avoid confusion, while it leaves a spot open for a new member, like Sky-Byte or Swindle or even Arcee.

Why should they be inducted under their namesakes?
Own ceremonies or not, why should they be tied to other characters purely because they share the same name when that is the only thing they share beyond leadership?
    • Fans happy? - A lot of fans would disagree with you here.
    • Hasbro avoiding confusion? - Hasbro are the ones who clarified the situation.
    • Leaving a spot open for a new member? - It's only the 3rd year and as with every year the spot is open for any character from any era to be elected HoF: Fan Nominee - If this had been the 10th straight year of BW victories then I might've agreed with you.

At the end of the day, the victory goes to the one who campaigns most successfully and earns the most votes; best of luck to each contender I say but I sure hope this'll be the year of the Tyrant Saurian-Dragon! :thumb

    Vote #1 BW Megatron! :D

Thought I'd post this here so its not lost/buried in the campaign sea & for posterity

Indeed there is more to Transformers than just G1, there is also Beast Wars amongst many others.

There are many strong characters to be found in Beast Wars and that includes the Japanese series of Beast Wars: II & Beast Wars: Neo, one of the strongest (If not the strongest) to come out of the 3 shows however; was Beast Wars Megatron.

Now, initially, Hasbro had intended this character to be a continuation of the Original G1 Megatron but for fear of yet another backlash from collectors and fans (RE: Generation 2) it was deemed that this character would not be the original but an entirely new character taking the name of Megatron in honour of his predecessor - That way the original could avoid being tarnished with this fail-safe, much like the entire Toyline was labelled as a Kenner product as another fail-safe.

So, right from the get go BW Megatron was never given any faith by his manufacturer and he also had to deal with the near-impossible task of living up to the memory, reputation and name that is Megatron in the eyes of Fans, Collectors and by extension Parents.
(He did this throughout Beast Wars entire run, with fans screaming Gun/Tank not Barney!)

Not only that, but he was also hit with the task of taking on a familiar Alt mode associated with one of the biggest fan favourite characters of the 80s: Grimlock and the form of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. :redface2:

With such odds stacked against him, he turned all this around thanks to the hard efforts of a pair of writers (Bob Forward & Larry Ditillio), an Animation Studio (Mainframe Entertainment) and a Voice Over artist (David Kaye) who would go on to define one of the greatest stories and characters the Transformers franchise has seen to date. :rock

Beast Wars Megatron was both smart and resourceful, but also ruthless and utterly cunning whilst under a set of extremely unfavourable circumstances; His 1st toy was large and imposing and packed to the brim with features and accessories such as:
    • A water spitting cannon
    • Twin waist mounted missile launchers
    • Tail/claw chomping action
    • A battle-mask
    • A fairly accurate Dinosaur Alt mode
    • More articulation than any other transformer toy of his size before him.

His cartoon character was sided with nearly nothing but incompetent fools and those that could think for themselves were constantly plotting his usurpation; taking this onboard, not only did he:
    • Successfully take out the enemy commander,
    • Steal troops
    • Stare down a seemingly superior Alien race
    • Discover the hallowed Ark,
    • Nearly blow Optimus Prime's head off,
    • Nearly erase the Autobots & Maximals existence,
    • Adapt Alien Technology for his use and advantage,
    • Tame the Mutanted-Spark of Protoform X,
    • Discover the Nemesis Warship
    • Come close to burning the Earth's surface to a crisp; but that's just in Beast Wars!

In Beast Machines, the follow-up Cartoon series, he:
    • Broke free of Maximal capture
    • Decimated Cybertron's own defences
    • Enslaved the entire population of Cybertron with no discretion of allegiance
    • Amass an entire, ever loyal army of drones
    • Reduce the enemy leader and his troops to a fleeing band of refugees
    • Successfully separated his organic self from his Technological self
    • Inadvertently aided in the reformation of Cybertron itself; and that's not even all of it!

BW Megatron stared down adversity throughout his tenure, chuckling all the way; he was never expected to succeed from the beginning - he has proven himself without question and has earnt your vote.

So when it comes time to vote for a Nominee to enter TFW2005's, Seibertron's, Allspark's, TFwiki's or anyone else's short-list of entrants for Hasbro's Hall of Fame Fans Choice Nominee for 2012 - vote for the guy who who spent his life as the underdog.

Vote #1 Beast Wars Megatron! :thumb

Now that Rattrap is out, guess I better post here. Wheeljack will likely be Auto-inducted next year...

If anyone would like to use my Sig, feel free. If you don't have your own hosting account, I think I have unlimited bandwidth... Just take it down once the Voting is over. My Sig conforms to 500 x 300, & <40k.

On the topic of why BW Megs isn't considered w/ the other Megs, for clarity, I call the others "Legacy Megatrons". They're their respecitve continuities' Megatrons (G1 Megatron being G1). BW Megatron falls outside of that, being a direct decendant, who in-universe took the name of Megatron from the original, who had taken his name from The Fallen.

BW Megatron is no more a Legacy Megatron than The Fallen (Megatronus Prime) is.

Also, if you don't want to have to worry about Beast Wars vs. Beast Machines, just call him Beast Era Megatron.

The in-joke for my Sig is the first quote is [G1] Ravage pointing out he's a seperate Megatron from the original, & the 2nd line's "Aliens" refers to us humans, since he'd like us voting him in.

We should definitely add all of Megatron's signatures people have mad to the first post. It'd help rally up more support with unifying sigs. I've seen a few members repping the ones I made; makes me so proud

Not a problem. I was gonna ask you about that via pm, but then I figured you wouldn't have posted it in the first place if you didn't want it seen, so I just stuck it there. :)

Many thanks for writing it for the campaign :)

No probs at all, I'm just happy that I've been able to contribute something.
I tell you what though, Hasbro's deafening silence on the 'Final 5 Nominees', is really starting to get to me!

Due to something I don't think I'm allowed to post about, I decided to look & see if all of the Sigs in the first post conform to Board Rules, & one doesn't:

This one is 42,457 bytes or 41.462kB, when the rules say it has to be under 40kB.
(for international users, these numbers are using US standards for , & .)
