I\'d really like to see updates for a lot of these characters especially the combiners.
I still have the original landfill team but man they don\'t really combine in a great way.
that\'s one of the main reasons I never picked up the other combiners. Always hoping a more updated version would come alone.

Takara likes to retcon all their shows and toylines to be in one continuity. Bottom line, this was a reset then and it stands alone. Anything before or after it is only connected story wise through intricate fan fiction. Even if that fanfic comes from someone who works at Takara. :)

new Mold CR/RiD are still some of the greatest TFs ever made, especially Mach Alert and Fire Convoy.

Modern TFs wish they could have the fit n' finish of those figures.

The last few weeks, I've been watching this show with my children...they LOVE IT! I went and pulled out Sky-Byte and Rail Racer. They love their Siege/Earthrise/Kingdom toys, but guess what they want for Christmas right now? Rail Racer and Sky-Byte, LOL!

Well hey, let's remember I was a mere first grader here! It might be possible that he wasn't as accurate as my seven-year-old brain thought at the time. I should see if any of those survived though. If I find any, they just might have to make their way onto this site ;)

The other one I very distinctly remember was a Gas Skunk I made by clipping out his picture in a toy catalog, taping some extra bits to him and folding him up so I at least had a 2-D transforming version of him

The only thing I don’t love about RID/Car Robots is how expensive the toys are on the aftermarket. :lol  Still need Landfill, JRX/Rail Racer, and UW Baldigus before I can even approach some level of satisfaction.

I’ll always have nostalgia and love for this series and it’s figures. God Fire Convoy is still one of the most badass toys to come out of this brand, and Sky-Byte will forever be a cherished character. To think it’s already been twenty years.

    Happy Birthday RID.

Fire Convoy is a great figure and still one of my personal favorites and would still have in my collection to this day if it wasn’t lost in a move.

TT did a release of Baldigus/Ruination for the Unite Warriors line. I have it. I swapped his limbs to the opposite configuration of Bruticus to make him stand out more (and as it was also shown in the series Baldigus could do this). But I do agree, updates for JRX(Railraacer), and Buildking (Landfill), would be pretty cool.

Tell me about it. I actually remember watching Escaflowne on Fox Kids (watched it in the Hotel on Saturday Mornign before heading down to Botcon!). I at least give them credit for giving me knowledge that series exists, despite all the editing they had to do.

But hey, I grew up with Battle of the Planets, Star Blazers, Robotech and Voltron. I should be used to edited Anime' ;)

I agree. That's why I'm torn when we talk about Generations re-dos. There is no way they can capture the complexity, stance, finish, overall heft of the originals using current tech.

I really dig the WFC era, collecting it, but it will not handle these well IMO. I also don't think it's really capturing it for Beast Wars either. Losing something in the smaller scale.

RID was my return to Transformers after G1. I totally missed the beast era altogether. Though I did grab a Jetstorm from Beast Machines right before RID kicked off.

The brothers were some of the best Deluxes every created. Optimus / Fire Convoy is fantastic, and his combo with Magnus is just amazing on every level.

I hope at some point there's a way to get a copy of this to view again. My VHS machine is dead and it's tough to find another. I hope something happens with those designs in the future. It sounds like the reissue of Fire Convoy wasn't all it should have been. I wouldn't hate seeing the design team making the WFC figures tackle RID designs. That could lead to some serious fun.

I remember when your site first started, and you had some short remixed audio clips with some '2005' thrown in and some sampled Beast Wars stuff. You know, I might have those audio clips...somewhere...

Anyway, your site has been a staple of mine for many years, and it's amazing to see how much it has grown.

Well, as for RID, or should I say, Car Robots, I used to have the following: Fire Convoy, Ultra Magnus, Black Convoy, JRX set, Build Team set, Car brothers (including the recolors), and Brave Maximus. I used to have the Japanese CD single for the opening song. Now, all I have remaining is Wild Ride and some catalogues from Car Robots.

I hope they reissue Fire Convoy, wouldn't mind having him back in my collection.

I do have a friend who has the limited edition clear set of the Car brothers, and he might be willing to sell it

Ironically, me downloading Transformers G1, Beast Wars, and RoboTech episodes over dial up with a download manager during the night (since I was curious if the series was as good as I remembered it when it aired back in the '80's and new Beast Wars was somewhat of a serial so wanted to see it as intended) is what convinced my parents to get a second phone line for the internet, and allowed us to connect to the internet whenever we wanted to, as slow as it was. Not long after RiD was released we moved over to cable as "it's faster and you will thank me later and it costs as much as dial up + phone line does" was the reasoning and the house LAN at my parents was built shortly thereafter, which still exists (albeit in a much faster and sleeker way) to this day.

Kinda amusing the impact Transformers has had in my life.

I never could get into the cartoon, but the toys got me into collecting Transformers full time. The three Car brothers, Rail Racer, Optimus, and Scourge are still some of my all time favorite toys. Its hard to believe it's been 20 years, time flies by so fast.

I remember being in Japan in 99 and these guys started making appearances. I was so excited because I thought G1 was back. I missed the vehicles. We are still waiting for a true re make of G1.
