I really enjoyed this series. Well...to be honest, I really enjoyed more so the original Car Robots version. By summer 2000, I had just finished obtaining BWII and Neo on VHS and was excited for Car Robots. I attended Botcon 2000 July 28-30 of that year. I had already obtained Fire Convoy and Gigatron from eBay, and was looking for newer characters. At the convention, I straight up traded my BC exclusives Shockaract and Apelinq for JRX and Baldigus, a decision I would still make all over again. I was also able to get the first 8 episodes of the series on VHS, raw (not subbed), and loved it.

2000 was still relatively early for internet videos. a few really bad copies of BM season 2 could be obtained early since YTV in Canada had aired them before Fox Kids in the U.S., but that show was just more of a chore to complete the BW saga. Car Robots got me excited about TF\'s again. Getting later episodes of the series on the internet was hit-and-miss, so you can imagine my excitement when Fox announced they wre dubbing the series.

20 years later, i appreciate the dub for what it is. However...Fox\'s handling of the show was criminal. Although it aired initially 6 days a week, the airtimes got very random especially on Saturdays. then 9/11 happened and that messed up everything. Some epsidoes were aired out of order. 3 were banned altogether (at least in the U.S.), leading some to wonder if they had even been dubbed at all. I mean this would nto be the first time that happened *cough* Ultraman Tiga *cough*

Anyway...The whole series (both high quality fan subs of Car Robots, and the RiD dub) are now on YouTube. I do have a Malaysian DVD set which was a nice cost effective alternative to trying to obtain long oop UK R2 DVD\'s. Unfortunately, since this series was produced by Saban Ent, and subsequently purchased by Disney, it was not part of the deal when Saban purchased *most* of their IP back, which ironically now rests with Hasbro. Disney I\'m pretty sure dosen\'t even know they have it, and Hasbro dosen\'t seem to be making any great efforts to get it back, which is a shame. I\'d defintely support a legit media release of this series.

In hindsight, I know it was just supposed ot be \"filler\" until the first U.S./Jpaan co-produced series came out (Armada), but I\'ll be completely honest when I say I prefer Car Robots to any of the Unicron Trilogy. CR got me excited about Transformers again, and that true excitement wouldn\'t come yet again until almost a decade later with Prime. Now since Prime ended in 2013, there have been some amazing toys in the Generations line, but I\'m still waiting for an animated series that looks great and gets me excited for the brand.

The series that got me into Transformers.

The series that gave us Scourge, Sky-Byte, and a 10-Changer Megatron/Galvatron.

The series that gave us a good-guy version of the Constructicons, Team motherfucking Bullet Train, and the Autobot brothers.

As a kid of that era, I’m super nostalgic for RID even though I didn’t technically get into the line until Armada. You can very much tell it’s from 2001, and thats what makes it so nostalgic for me.

Had some great designs, awesome figures, and a unique story. Great series overall. Outside of the US/Japan G1 continuity, This and Prime are my favorite tied for 1st with Beast Wars coming in behind them.

Unfortunately no (see my post a few minutes before yours). It was released on DVD in the UK and Malaysia. Disney currently has the rights to it, which they probably don't know they have, and Hasbro hasn't made any effort I'm aware of to get it back. Fortunately both the Car Robots fansub, and the RiD dub are fully available on Youtube.

80s Era G1 continuity, though Beast wars and Car Robots tied into the lore of G1 I don't consider it G1 content.

    Happy birthday RiD! :bday

This is the show that gave us Sky-Byte, the best version of Scourge, and the first fire truck Optimus Prime! The show itself is just a fun time--it doesn't take itself too seriously and it's all the better for it. The characters are all fun and loveable, and they really made the show what it was.

RID was also the first Transformers cartoon recorded in LA since G1, and the last one before Animated. VAs like Daran Norris and Steve Blum first got their start with the franchise here, and some VAs from G1 (namely, Michael McConnohie, who played Tracks in G1 and Ironhide in RiD).

Overall, it's a pretty fun show, and it's kind of upsetting that it's largely overlooked today. I am still glad though that there are some out there who continue to show this show some love.

Amazing. I remember being big into a lot of Fox Kids stuff, primarily Digimon, but Beast Machines never really grabbed my interest. It wasn't until my dad bought me the Ironhide/Mirage Spychanger two-pack back when I was all of seven years old and I was completely hooked. My brother and I would work together to build the combiner teams and would often fight over who got which Spychanger. There were some toys I wasn't able to get back then (due to being seven, which severely limits one's overall income). But my classmates and I would just make paper versions of the characters we didn't have--fully transformable, too! My crowning achievement was a paper RID Megatron that managed to get *most* of his modes looking *mostly* like they were supposed to. :lol  I miss this era so much

Happy 20th Birthday Transformers: Robots In Disguise (2001). I may not have watched it back in the day, but I will always appreciate its existence. Also RID (2001) superior, RID (2015) inferior!
