I go with FIBRIR for pseudo political correctness, but I usually go with the cartoon so it could be the other way. Or you could just call them the red one and the blue one.

 

Since I was only familiar with the G1 cartoon growing up, I'm pretty much on the side where Rumble's blue and Frenzy's red. Didn't read any of the Marvel G1 comics until I was an adult.

I just say, it's up to the individual person who they think is red and blue, and we shouldn't be fighting over who's right/wrong about the whole thing, as the fight is really getting old.

the g1 story bible even states RIRFIB

Anyways. Rumble is Blue. I'm in this I.P. becuase of the story and the story started with the cartoon.

Whoa now, I really couldn't care less what color either one are but, really? An animation error that started from the first episode and lasted until the end? Correct me if I'm wrong but, that sounds like it was -supposed- to be if it was throughout the -entire- show, no? I'll even go so far as Soundwave summoning Rumble and the blue one popping out in the very first episode. Enter character introduction, enter character color.
