Yeah I saw Scourge and Cyclonus on the frontpage and was like, "WTF?" It inspired me to buy the DVD set, though.

Would have liked to have seen some TFW members/staff mentioned and or interviewed.

There's an obvious connection between Henry Hanks and Seibertron - this is the 5th or 6th time he's written an article and linked Seibertron to it.

Let me add an EDIT to this article:

    1) To paraphrase a comment on the article itself, "I like the Transformers movies and stuff, but this article was a different language to me."

You basically have a Transformers fan writing about Transformers on a large network such as CNN. Here's where the problem comes in which is something that has plagued Transformers for decades - you cannot write an article about Transformers to a majority-non-Transformers-fans and expect them to understand one damned thing about it.

Example: What is "Takara"? What is "Headmasters"? Neither are explained in this article, as the author expects you to already know.

    2) Fail to see how this is anything even close to "news" especially for CNN. When have they ever done an article on a cartoon DVD being released?

    3) The article reeks of a Seibertron flub piece. Meaning the article is written as an advertisement for Seibertron - interview with Ryan, interview with a no-name moderator, and hey, let's throw the site statistics in there too! And we'll still mention the other websites (in order of least competition to strongest) but immediately focus back on Seibertron.

Just want you guys to know exactly what you're reading, and not thinking that CNN has taken any interest in our little fan community.

It just kinda stings to mentioned, in passing, last in that article.

I kind of wondered how Joe Schmoe was going to know who Takara was, and why Seibertron was getting such a lovefest...

    And now I know.

And knowing is half the battle!

Oh, well. Got rather confused at CNN running something about Headmasters, of all things.

I think it still nice (despite the seibertron.com bias) to see an article in mainstream news site about Transformers (to be fair, the focus on shout's efforts to bring out a Japanese series, their hurdles, and focus on the breadth of the fanbase was nice) without glaring issues (like, Transformers being a cartoon first) was nice.

Agreed on all counts. That no name moderator does in fact have a name, he posts on this site from time to time. (Not sure if that comment you made was sarcastic or not so :lol )
So yea, I know exactly what I'm reading. An advertisement for Seibertron just like you said.

I might have been more excited if these were properly dubbed releases. I just don't see semi-curious fans shelling out money for straight up Japanese releases.

Good lord, I think I'm a negative person lol Why so much hatred for Seibertron? They got contacted and they participated? Wouldn't the folks from TFW do the same? If u get contacted first your always looking to show your role in all of it.

I like Ryan and he has even come over to my place once, so why the hatred? I didn't even read the story, just came in to see what it was about.

I just don't get people that: "Hate Seibertron because of ...." or "I hate TFW because of....." I use them both and enjoy aspects of each and deal with a lot of members of both sites. Also, believe u me I am opinionated and will share my thoughts lol My last couple posts here have been locked, but I'm not crying or posting my hate even if I am peeved:p

In addition to everything Kickback pointed out, even without the Seibertron shoutouts the article is laughable. Trying hard to hype up a show that is really mediocre by calling it "the lost series" and "one of the most sought-after items."

The average person's never neard of it, and though the internet makes things easier to hear about (I heard about it on a geocities site 10 years ago), there are still plenty of people on message boards displaying no knowledge of anything besides the G1 cartoon or new movies. So it's only sought-after to people who've already invested interest and research into the franchise, and most of them are competent enough to find it on the internet. And about 80% of the people who've seen it understand it's boring and silly. The other 20% are people trying to reassure themselves of the nostalgia value "It had a Prowl cameo, so it wasn't all bad right?"

Then they have to go and rag on the malay dub, which was the most entertaining part of the show. "Rest assured they are that horrible, you can't actually sit there and watch them." You can't sit there and watch the boring show without them, either. And here Brian claims they didn't use the dub because they weren't translated well enough for his standards; yet in earlier tweets, he reported that Shout did want to use them but Hasbro wouldn't let them.

    lol, naw

I... I don't think Kickback ever stated he hated Seibertron, or really even implied he disliked it. He just pointed out the probable connection based on evidence, and why we shouldn't be reading into this as "the majority is as into TFs as we are."

Uhhhh. I tried reading the whole thing but it just did my head in. What a poorly constructed fluff-piece of an advertising article. & who put this shit together? Henry Hanks? Is that even a real name? Absolute drivel... [IMG]

    (General Tekno)

He's referring to the horrible horrible official dubs that exist.

I know, still no reason to vomit unprofessionally on someone else's work. Such comment buried in a thread on some fansite, no prob, it happens all the time, but in an official article? Anyway, I'm more than happy with my chinese boxset and have no reason to buy the new one. It's not like Headmasters is that great of a show to begin with.

How slow does the day have to be that an old cartoon coming to dvd is news?? Regardless of which fan site gets the press, I'm amazed that any major news source would bother to report on something this insignificant. I certainly hope that Prime winning Emmys made CNN, because that's way more topical and potentially interesting to the general public.
