Actually, the people that would become the leadership of Hasbro & Takara, in a joint expedition after witnessing a UFO crash, stumbled across a downed Autobot rescue ship. It was totally abandonded, but the databanks were still intact. Once translated, they got the names, specs & known altmodes (changed depending on mission, environment & whether or not their cover had been blown) of members of an Autobot special forces unit, whom the Rescue force was sent to retrieve, lead by one Optimus Prime, & their enemies most commonly encountered, the Decepticons.

With these details, Hasbro & Tarkara proceeded to make toys based on the discovery. Due to the high development cost of converting the files into toys & the expedition to find the ship, the company that became Hasbro paid for the expedition, while Takara built the facility to make the toys. Thus Diaclone & TransFormers were born.

Btw, this is the explanation of the TF toys' origin (not directly stated, but alluded to) in my comic... Except there, the Allspark, which Hasbro & Takara have shards of, brought the toys to life; though different levels of Allspark radiation activates toys over different time periods. For why the Owner never notices the toys moving, I borrowed the "shadow dimention" concept.

I already gave proof it was a crashed Autobot Rescue ship. After of those who would found Hasbro & Takara found it & took the tech they wanted, since Hasbro funded the expedition, they had control of the ship & sold it to the US Government to recoup their immeditate expenditures for the expedition; It just took 33 years to translate the files & reverse engineer the technology to make the toys. It was then taken to Area 51 for a stripdown. & Optimus isn't in charge of Microsoft; parts of the ship were sent to what would become Intel for "analysis & duplication".

Optimus wouldn't make Windows as flawed as it is, that's more Starscream & Swindle's MO. I could see the flaws in Windows if Wheeljack was the programmer, however... Since only about 50% of his stuff comes out as intended, 75% of which ends up in Decepticon hands; the other 50% either malfunction or blow up.

 

I never said Optimus PROGRAMMED windows, I said he was the boss of the company and the Autobot Science Division [which icluedes WheelJack] created Microsoft.
Wheeljack was the first CEO, but when he tried to make an Computer that make computers that make computers, he was reduced to Lead Scientist and Optimus replaced him.
