    CLOSING THOUGHTS

Well with all 97 episodes under my belt, I though it high time to give my impressions of the series as a whole. So what did I think? Well I'll say it right now, it's not the best thing in the Transformers franchise. The plots were full of holes, its nature as a marketing vehicle was transparently obvious, the animation ranged from "pretty good" to "horrid" and while settings and characters often change, the overall structure is very formulaic.

But in the end, does any of that matter?

Simply put, this series is just plain FUN. Even the worst episodes have something enjoyable, and the best ones dish out great action, interesting mythology, and enough humor to keep it lighthearted. It's also clear that this was a series not afraid to try new things. Despite the aforementioned formulaic nature, the events structured around said formulas are incredibly varied. One episode might have straight up robot action on Earth, and the next might have comedic adventures in Medieval England. While not all of those ideas worked, the ones that did served as templates that would be expanded upon and refined in future Transformers series.

And that's what this series really is, a rich menagerie of stories and ideas. It's not just a cartoon, but rather the first entry in a mythology that would span across decades. It's not high art (but what exactly is high art? Or just plain old art for that matter?) but it never wanted to be. It just wants to take you back to the time when you were eight years old, and have fun.

    Overall score: 8/10.

One final bit of useless trivia: The phrase "everloving crap" appears 72 times in this thread. 73 if you count this one.

    *slow claps*-80's stlyle!

Big time thanks Vector Squidma for the always enjoyable reads. You were harsh when you needed to be (especially when it came down to the science of a 26 year old kids cartoon) but usually fair. Bravo sir, I salute you. I think deep down inside we all knew you'd overtake and beat Meta, who it seems died at the 24 mile mark of a marathon.

So do you want to go out now and buy a whole bunch of brick-like toys with no articulation? Especially after 'Rebirth', I bet Fort Max and Scorponok are calling your name.

Eh...no. I like my transformers to have a little more involved transformation than "pull out legs, pull out arms, flip up head". Then again if I see one at a garage sale for a buck...oh why the hell not.

Congrats on making it all the way through. Great job! You deserve an energon goodie. :)  Nice final comments. The most significant reason G1 was so beloved is that it was fun! The cartoon gave us the possibilities. We didn't need strict continuity or brilliant animation, we had imagination and our own toys to fill in the gaps.

Hell yeah! This is pretty much why I love G1.... and Bay's movies too. And R.I.D., you don't go watching these things for great plot or sense, but for pure fun.

    Woo!

Finally someone did a retrospective of G1 and they finish it.
When I get the time, I'll probably read all your reviews.

She was probably meant to either help the Autobots against the decepticons or to act as a failsafe in case the Autobots lost. That's my theory anyway. Fun reviews. I don't agree with everything but you have had me giggling.
