What is the origin of Optimus Prime's japanese name? |

As the title says. why do they call him "Convoy"?
"Prime" means "First" in latin and "Optimus" means "Excellent" in latin (so i assume thats why we call him what we call him).
So why "Convoy"?

-The act of accompanying or escorting, especially for protective purposes.
-An accompanying and protecting force, as of ships or troops.

As for why the Diaclone folks called him that, I doubt that its anything more then dudes with a loose grasp of english arbitrarily picking a word associated with trucks.  | |
