there is a bit of a problem with this question and its this neither could have existedinthe 1980s for the show there new animation techinques that are usedin all cartoons/anime that did not exist back then, the could have made animated fairly close to what it is now but not fully, and as for the toy they did not have some of the technology that goes into the most current toys, most importantly the ball joint so for the question setting aside these fact id say yes

EDIT: was in a hurry and misread what you posted. I agree with you on the technology issues.

I like animated now! lol, I would have loved it as a little kid!
What kid doesn't love animated Blitzwing?

"I WILL POUND THEM INTO SHEET METAL"

Plus, Arnold was HUGE IN THE 80's, more people would have caught on to the reference.

In the 80s I liked any robots that turned into stuff... rocklords, TF's, Gobots... so yep.

If Animated had been first in the 80's, I don't think anything would have followed. I'm not even sure if I would have become a fan. The Fan Nods in Animated would have been meaningless, and by not making all the characters into toys it would have been a death nell. Hasbro would have gone onto something else and perhaps the Gobots would have recovered from the Rock Lords.
