G1 Transformers at Universal Studios circa 1984-85?

For anyone who grew up in Southern California, do you remember when they had G1 Transformers being promoted at Universal Studios, Hollywood? This was definitely around 1984-85.

I remember seeing the commercials featuring people dressed up in big blocky TF character costumes like Mickey or Donald at Disneyland/world, where you could take pictures with them. (I distinctively remember seeing Jazz in these commercials) And I remember friends saying they had contests for kids to see who could transform certain G1 toys the fastest and they gave away prizes like t-shirts, posters, and some toys.

I've been trying to find any of the commercials and promos on Youtube etc and internet, but haven't been able to find anything. The only thing I can find concerning Universal Studios is the upcoming ride that is slated to be built in the upcoming year or two. Did any local SoCal boardies ever attend this event in the 80's or know about it?

sounds awesome! I hope you find pictures and videos

This reminds me of a ebay auction I saw some months back. It was these old G1 mascot heads, I saw kickback and Grimlock

Duuuude!! I wished you still had the pictures! Too bad. I keep bringing this topic up with friends and they think I'm making the whole thing up! LOL

Were they the mascot heads that the Universal personnel wore? Wow! Did they end for a lot of money?

I don't think they sold for tons of money? I sorta glanced at them and moved on. You should check out the seibertron boards. I remember a topic some months back with pictures now that I think about it. I dont remember what forum it was posted in however.
