Wired Presents "The 12 Most Ridiculous Transformers of All Time"

Honestly if you want to go useless replacement for Fire Convoy I would say why don't we replace them with all three of the predicons in that series. You know the three team rocket/ three stooges under shark dude or whatever his name was.

I thought it was honestly trying too hard to be archly satirical.

Sure, some of the alt-modes were dumb when you think about them but....come on, let's not be snide just for the sake of it.

Plus, he starts out by bashing Animated which is, by most accounts, a pretty well-written Transformers cartoon. It isn't Tolstoy but it's fairly deep compared to the random insanityfests which constitute most cartoons these days.

The list was kinda funny, though sometimes ill informed.

I disagree with Waspinator, Deathsaurus, Ultra Magnus (who has been given a point in the IDW universe now) and Shockwave

The tone and intent was funny, but the execution was epic fail. So here's my list of the (12? Really? No, we're going with a nice round number like 10) most useless TFs in history:

#10: Waspinator. (Beast Wars) The consumate cannon fodder troop if ever there was one. I loved Waspy, but let's face it, he was pretty the "Kenny" of Beast Wars.
#9: Rodimus Prime. (G1. Pretty much both cartoon and comic) Spends all his time whining about how he's not Optimus.
#8: Depth Charge. (Beast Wars) Screwed the whole Universe in favor of his own personal vendetta. Universe still saved, but no thanks this dumbass.
#7: Transmutate. (Beast Wars) Didn't even transform. Powerful, but without any intelligence to back it up, that power is meaningless.
#6: Sideways. (Revenge of the Fallen) Ran for about 20 feet and died like a little bitch at the hands of Sideswipe. He did crash through a building, but the damage was so cliche that I'm surprised he didn't also crash through a fruit stand and 2 guys carrying a plane of glass.
#5: Wing Dagger. (Energon) Spent all of his time whining about how he let his friend get killed by Shockblast and always vowing revenge. Then, starts whining that he's not ready to take him on when he gets his chance after being upgraded to Wingsaber.
#4: The Predacons (Sky Byte, Slapper, Gaskunk and Darkscream). (RID) Actually dressed like Autobots to try to foil the Decepticons. And also actually thought their base would run on batteries.
#3: Sentinel Prime. (Animated) Not only got in everyone's way, but consistently would make situations worse all the while touting himself to be superior. Epic fail.
#2: Unicron. (Energon, cartoon) Useful only as a plot device, completely useless as a character.

And the number 1 most useless Transformer ever...
#1: Wheelie. (G1 Cartoon) He's small, can't fight, only speaks in rhymes... truly the REAL Jar Jar Binks of the TF Universe.

This is mostly meant to be funny, but I also based it on their actual effectivenesses.

Anyone who disses Waspinator should be burned alive. I don't think I've ever been happier than when he emerged as the rules of the primitives at the end of Beast Wars.

Some of the other ones are spot on though.

Oh, and Shockwave is one of the coolest Transformers in any story arch. Sorry Wired reviewer guy, you fail. Utterly.

I agree with your list, but I do like the Rodimus character from G1. It didn't bother me that he always was second guessing himself as a leader. I never followed any of the Japanese spin-off shows like headmasters, so I'm not sure about his character after G1.

As far as the less than meets the eye article goes, I disagree about Kup, Magnus, and Shockwave. I liked Magnus and Kup because I thought they were good characters to have as autobot soldiers. I have always thought Shockwave was a great character in the comic, but was pretty good when featured on the cartoon.
