Searched for a thread on this but couldn't find one. But I had to share my experience with you. Ok so I watched it last night, one of the 2 copies I got (by accident), and I swear to God it is a night and day difference from any previous version I have seen. My jaw literally dropped. I have owned 2 VHS copies, 2 DVD copies and watched them all over 100 times and all fail in comparison to this edition. The clarity and detail are massively better as well as the color jumps of the screen, and looks accurate. Unlike the crappy sony version. And finally a version that has NO macro blocking. Awesome. The original film dirt is there, but it make me feal like I am watching this in theaters again since the quality was the same as I remember it back in 1986 on the BIG SCREEN. The DTS soundtrack is emense too. Much better than the crappy Dolby Digital abomination. There are new details to be heard. Some of the scenes that jump out at you right off the bat is when Unicron is munching on planet Lithone at the beginning of the movie. You can see clearly every detail of the planet and unicron. Its amazing. Or on the planet of junk, you can actually make out things all over the place. The drawings were highly detailed and always lost with previous versions. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. I think its a must own if you love the 1986 film as much as I do. You will see things in this movie you never saw before and hear things better than ever. "YOU GOT THE TOUCH, YOU GOT THE POWER. YAH!" P.S. I am selling the second copy (accidentially ordered) I have for $30 if anyone here is interested. Be willing to also trade for Superman Returns with TrueHD audio edition
I'd buy it... if I had a Blu-Ray DVD player. Though I thought the Sony version was cool. But hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Love that cover!
The sony version is probably the best version on DVD, but what killed it for me is the lack of clarity and MACRO BLOCKING (glitchy pixelation in fast sequences - Bigger the screen the worse it looks). Reason why I bought this edition which has none of those problems.
Please also note that it works aok on all NTSC blu-ray players. Since Blu Ray Movies which are encoded in HD 1080p/24 you don't have to worry about PAL or NTSC anymore, it doesn't matter. You only have to check the region code. This blu-ray is region free, so it worked perfectly in my NTSC PS3. Even though it was PAL encoded. I so love blu-ray.
It doesn't matter with Blu-ray discs that are region free as said above. I play it aok on my regular NTSC Playstation 3. But it is PAL.
What are the 5 hrs of extras? All the reviews I read seem to be for the single disc, no extras version.
There are no extras on the Blu-ray version. Any one who has a Blu-ray player owes it to them selves to track down TFTM on BD.
I am looking to make a purchase. It seems that the bluray version is coded region b.... Will that render it useless for use in my ps4 here in the US? Transformers - The Animated Movie (Blu-Ray)
This looks to be the Australian release which I do own. It will play in Region 1 with all special features working. I cannot recommend this version enough. It is superior to any release before or after. It is also available at JBHIFI. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv...amily/transformers-the-animated-movie/251451/
I'd be interested but I'd have to find out more about what version it is and how can it be pal yet still run NTSC?
Yes. Why the hell hasn't this happened yet? We have GI Joe The Movie on blu ray but not TF: The Movie, which was actually released in theaters and is an infinitely more popular brand right now? Makes no sense unless they do it for the 30th anniversary. Can't wait, though. Pretty sure I could watch this movie every day of my life if I had to and you probably wouldn't have to twist my arm. Hell, DiCola's remastered score is on constant rotation in my studio.
Some of you folks with the 'tech' questions regarding this movie might want to ask that question(s) in the Video or Tech forum. The gamers will know about the PS3/4 abilities, etc. Best of luck.
