I'm one of those who is perfectly happy with the Rhino G1 release. It doesn't seem particularly fair to bash them when they were pretty much the only ones looking out for us old school Transfans back then.

This sort of reminds me of the debate that went on back when the "Special Edition" versions of the Star Wars movies were being released. "The old version was better!" some fans were screaming. "We don't need the added special effects or sound effects or extra scenes!" And there will always be fans like that who won't be happy unless they can experience the cartoon the same way they did as a child. (Side note: if I were to experience the cartoon the same way I did when I was a child, it would have to be on a 13 inch set with rabbit ears, and the picture would have to be occasionally punctuated with snowy static. Oh, and I'd also have to get up at 5 AM every Saturday morning.)

I'm going to choose to be happy with my Rhino set. I'd much prefer that the powers that be would concentrate on releasing currently unreleased sets here in Region 1, like RiD, Energon, and the Japanese series. If Sony wants to make a quick buck off of me, they can put Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory on a R1 DVD set for me.

I just got the one G1 TV set that's in English and Chinese a couple days ago, the one that my brother decided to get for me for my birthday last week along with some comics. I told him that if Sony ever releases the G1 TV series on DVD, and if it has any sweet features, I'm going to buy that set. He just looked at me like "What you need two sets for?" He still thinks that I'm nuts for owning 3 copies of the '86 movie (well, 4, since that set I'm talking about did come with the movie).

Thanks SmokescreenGT for making this sig!

The sounds on the Rhino soundtrack (if not added by Rhino themselves, then by TV Loonland or whomever owned Sunbow's properties at the time), are annoying and distracting.

Particularly the 'sizzle' sound during laser fire, and those sound effects that were not heard in cartoons until the 1990s.

They were added by Rhino through Magno Sound.

Ive got the bootleg chinese set that came in a wooden box with a pat lee prime on the front.........

Got it for like 50 bucks shipped back before the movie price surge. Try to find one of those, its bare bones 98 episodes plus the movie with original englich soundtrack and i bet you could still get it for around 100
