The original golden disk contains a history of earth and humanity up until 1977, whe it was launched on board one of the Voyager space probe (This disk actually exists in real life, there is one aboard each of the 2 Voyager spacecraft). While not incredibly usefull in the present/future, it does contain the location of Earth. Also, since the BW characters end up in the past, the data becomes quite a bit more valuable.
The second golden disk is one created by the Vok aliens. I believe it was used to control their technology/creations.

Megatrons weapon is a flail, not a morning star.
