Golden discs

Okay, why are these discs considered to be Cybertron's greatest treasure? Is it because they are ancient artifacts or they lead to a rich energon source?

It's because they basically have a complete record of Earth, as well as the location of the Energon. Someone with it, like Megatron, could use the knowledge to change the course of history (as seen in Code of the Hero). That is the true power of the Disc.

There are two golden disks out there in the TF-verse.

The original golden disk contains a history of earth and humanity up until 1977, whe it was launched on board one of the Voyager space probe (This disk actually exists in real life, there is one aboard each of the 2 Voyager spacecraft). While not incredibly usefull in the present/future, it does contain the location of Earth. Also, since the BW characters end up in the past, the data becomes quite a bit more valuable.

The second golden disk is one created by the Vok aliens. I believe it was used to control their technology/creations.

The only one Megatron had on him in "Code of Hero" was the Voyager disk. If you watch closely it has "Sounds of Earth" written on it.

Plus several holo-messages that G1 Megs put there to help future Decepticons prevent humans from evolving and kill Optimus.
Megatrons weapon is a flail, not a morning star.

I always wondered why the location of earth would be any kind of secret. every transformer in G1 knew where it was, ravage survived into beast wars, and likely plenty of other autobots and decepticons.

Ravage sort of creeped me out in BW, imagine surviving that long only to die in the past. Like an infinite time loop.
