it's really hard to say. Marvel started it all though DW perfected it. But Marvel did give us G2 which I feel is very underated.

I like G1 Marvel. Crazy story lines, but fun to read.

 

So far Marvel holds the title. They were very entertaining comics even though I didn't always like the plotting.

 

Don't know enough about the Marvel TF comics to judge it. But I have read the DW and IDW comics, and of those two I'd say IDW for sure.

DW well cool, but the main comic seemed to focased on trying to rehash G1. IDW on the other hand did their own thing while still giving you the classic characters. I also like how Infiltration, Escalation, and so on, really make you feel like the autobots and decepticons are both military units.

For me, hands down winner is Marvel UK. And by that, I mean the weekly comic that weaved both UK material and US stories together, turning both into one big entity. They had a lot of ups and downs, but I always felt I knew that universe - It was somewhere I wanted to be as a kid!

DW started poor but picked up a bit near the end. I was really enjoying the last couple of issues when it went belly-up.

IDW is trying so hard to be clever, 'complex', and portentious that they've forgotten the mandate of comics to 'entertain' in my opinion. Really, at the end of each issue (each mini-series even!), I don't feel I've gone anywhere or learned anything.

 

Yeah, I agree with ya...Marvel UK for me too. You raised a good point as to how Marvel UK weave their way between the US comics.

It's a little hard to compare long-running series primarily aimed at kids to shorter-running series primarily aimed at nostalgic adults.

I will say I liked where DW's G1 series was going shortly before it went belly-up.

Overall, I've been more cartoon-focused in my TF life, so comics always felt like something that takes what I know in opposite directions more often than not.  

 

I agree with Redsquadron; Marvel UK meshing the US and UK continuities together mad ethe best TF comics we've had. However I am massively enjoying the IDW comics.

 

Overall I like Marvel but the Devil's Due Art of War was pretty damn good too.

 

IDW = Beast Wars, nuff said   DW dropped the ball on their attempt, though I'd say War Within was pretty good. But IDW really brought BW to life again for me.

 

Hard for me to say. I enjoyed all the Transformers comic series so far, but G2, Dreamwave G1 and Energon were all cut short before they could be finished. and IDW's book is still ongoing, but has been enjoyable thus far.

the prize goes to... Dreamwave for War Within vol 1. My favorite writer, my favorite artist working for the first time together.

 

I'm going to agree with the comment that idw's haven't been that "entertaining" I really REALLY liked the dreamwave books (all of 'em) especially the ongoing that got cancelled and war within.

 

agreed. They kept the TF's in hiding way too much in Infiltration, while we have a hologram talk to them. This is Transformers not "Annoying Human Teenagers and their Giant Robot Friends!" The Spotlights were good I like how Furman was trying to revive dead toy characters like Double-Dealer and Banzaitron. It was good for once to see a story through the eyes of just one TF char.

 

The Marvel stuff is still tops in my opinion. From the beginning of Budiansky with Shockwave thrashing Megatron, to the end of Furman with Bludgeon abandoning the Autobots on a dead planet, it was a wild ride (though the middle was admittedly hokey). And then it was followed up with the Swarm wrecking everyone's shit. Just great stuff.

Although IDW is doing very nice work as well and they'll definitely be missed whenever they're gone. I mean, they ACTUALLY came up with a good use for Megatron's gun mode. That right there should win them some kind of award.

 

Overall... I've got to go with Dreamwave. I loved what they were doing with the G1 ongoing series. Yes they dropped the ball, but while they had it... Wow!

IDW is growing on me, so right now they've got the number 2 spot.

 

For what I liked in comics, I really liked DW.

I haven't collected any others, so I am bias though.

 

Marvel UK - some outstanding original pieces (both one-offs and multi-part epics), some incredible art and colouring, and a whole heap of amazing mental gymnastics to tie stories from both sides of the Atlantic into one (mostly) coherent whole. And it had Robo-Capers.

Stumbled towards the end, but for the first two-hundred-and-fifty issues, a must-buy every week.

(Apart from when it started as a fortnightly, obviously.)
