Does anyone remember a robot cartoon that came on saturday mornings...I don't recall the name...But the jist of it was the following:

They were a group of combiners( I think 5 of em') that were sentient...they didn't transform just combined...but when they combined they had a human ally(actually a guy and a girl I think) that would get inside the main guy in some weird lil saucer ship...and actually one of them could change his shape into anything he wanted...seems like I remember him being a vacuum once...lol...I believe this toon was on around the same time the toon where the kid turned into a car and if he got wet he would turn back into a kid again...

which makes me think of another toon that was like a movie where this guys father built this huge bot that was a weird truck like vehicle ( I think this was on like a movie channel)...Then his son had this car that drove up into the back of it and it transformed and he controlled it...

If anyone knows or remembers the names of these let me know I would like to get a hold of them...

The one where the kid turned into a car was "turboteen", he would turn into a car when he got hot and turned back when cooled off, I liked watching that. The others don't sound familar.

The first one you've mentioned sounds like Mighty Orbots. 5 Robots, that could combine into a larger robot, each had their own individual abilities as well, and had a human guy who "piloted" them in combined form with one of the smaller robots, Ohno (looked very similar to a girl). Check it out on youtube; that what you're looking for?

(I'd provide links, but net running veeeery slow for me tonight)

Definitely Mighty Orbots. I had a whole memory lane trip with that show a couple of months ago, thanks to YouTube. Apparently it was a pretty ambitious US-Japan co-production, but didn't have immediate success... so it only ran for a very very short time, and then disappeared.

Interesting that something so brief left such an impact. Just goes to show how you perceive things like the passage of time differently when you're a kid, whose priorities are mostly what cartoons you can watch next Saturday morning. :)

As for the Orbots show, definitely check it out on YouTube. The characters are pretty goofy, but the animation quality is surprisingly excellent for the time. I was impressed.

What the heck is the third one? I've seen just about every cartoon relating to robots and I've never seen anything like that.

Can you remeber anything about the style of character design? Was it Anime like, or more western?

    Wow,

Thanks guys that is great that you remember....The third one I really just have small images...

It was a futuristic semi-type vehicle and this guy (kinda reminded me a lil of battle of the planets) drove this futuristic car that drove up in the back of the truck...the car then interlocked with the truck and If I remember correctly the cockpit of the car came out and slid up into the cab of the truck....Then these devices attached to the pilot as the truck began to transform(which was very complex)...I remember at the end the huge bot was either standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean or was standing in the ocean in epic fashion...If anyone can remember this please help...I believe it was more anime...but this was long ago...
