Eh most of my exs have been bitches about it. The one gal I lived with acted like it was okay at first and even liked Grimlock because of his cartoon persona but I did go thru a patch of buying a bunch on ebay when we didnt have a whole lot of disposable income so I know that didnt help. Last gal I dated was just a bitch in general and she liked to give me shit about that but as I told her thats part of the package and if you dont like it theres the door and she usually dropped it from there. Needless to say me and that ray of sunshine didnt stay together too terribly long.

Me too! (being a TFGirl). My friends tend to use me as a SF recollection machine.

    Chocula -

My former sig other didn't understand my continued fascination w/ TFs, TMNT, most Anime, ThunderCats, etc.... the only hobby we really had in common was a couple of P&P RPGs & Warhammer Fantasy (ed 5 & 6). I have a rather expensive book & comic habit (have dropped various titles over the yrs, cuz my mains go into mini-series overload), plus I am more Net-savvy & friendly than he (been on PalladiumBooks RPG's board for since... 1990(?). He got a lot of "Dude - you're so lucky!" cuz I didn't give grief about his hobbies, since I made a point to share in it to some extent.

At this point, next SO had better understand it, if not be a part. Same goes for if he's into cars or X sport - no interest for me, but if it doesn't make me into a XX hobby widow, go for it!! Like earlier poster said of his wife - "if it makes me happy, it makes her happy".

Bottom Line - Moderation - for guys or gals, regardless of hobby in question.

You see the ignorance I think comes from the opposite sex not understanding your obsession. For us its TFs, for some guys its sports (grrr, i don't like sports!), some girls its shopping for clothes that they have PLENTY OF, etc. When dealing with significant others you you have to make them understand you. If they can't then you shouldn't BE together in the first place. My gf not only understands but she's one of us(at least now she is).

My wife understands my hobby, and while she's not too thrilled about the amount of money I spend on it, she knows it's part of who I am, and she knew that going into the relationship.

There are a few TF's that she finds "cute" and others that she thinks look ugly, scary or both (Movie Megs falls into the "both" group for her). Hell, she went with me to Botcon last year (and spent most of the time at the nearby mall while I browsed the dealer room). She'll also be going to see the movie with me, but I think for her, it's more because of Shia and Josh than any of the TF's.

dude...that is so true...thats one thing that when my fiance says something about me picking up a toy when she doesnt think i should, i point to the clothes in her arms and ask about them...and that stops it....but that was also more towards the beginning, now she doesnt say it as much....

My girl at first seemed kind of annoyed by my obsession, but she was cool about it. She even got me Cybertron Nemesis Breaker and Downshift for my b-day. More recently I think she might be getting into it. A couple weeks ago after ranting on about the movie she asked me to smarten her up about transformers before we go see it, and just yesterday she said she wanted to make me a TF avatar.

...I'm just glad she doesnt think I'm a big dork like all my other friends :dunce  :dunce

My wife, now of almost 11 years has been dealing with TF collecting for about 8 years of our marriage. I had my toys from childhood when she met me, but hadn't started collecting as an adult yet. At first she seemed less interested in them and the money I was spending on them. I think some of that was because I spent the money I made from selling off other junk I had to buy TF's collections and then sold off what I didn't need and so on. But over the years as the collection has grown and taken up more space in my office I see that look in her eyes. She always acts like it's okay but I know she would much rather me be spending time with her and spending the money on something else. I do not spend any household earned money on my collection. I find other ways of making money outside our budget to pay for them. So she can't really complain. She knows it makes me happy, she can't help but know. I just think she wishes I spent the time with her instead of collecting. What I try to do is make sure I do both. I also have 3 kids, so it all must be balanced and I have to remember these are just toys and they are my family. They will always be more important.

    Lol, that was long winded.

I have collected various items all my life and my wife was cool with it even when we were dating. Heck she bought me the MP5 just because I asked! Badass I say!

I have the same question. . . one should never have said to me:

"What is it with YOU and all these TOYS?"

That line is the only thing I remember her for.

I'm barely in college so so far all I've gotten is "Ha, you still have your toys on your shelves!"

    Little do they know...

    Re: GF TF Ignorance

And here I thought this thread was someone ranting about fans being ignorant of "Galaxy Force"...

At any rate, this was my post on the subject in last month's honey, I collect Transformers thread:

When I saw my wife-to-be's bedroom for the first time, I noted the vintage Cabbage Patch, Barbie, Elvis, and Care Bears stuff on the shelves around her entire room. She seemed a wee bit embarrassed that she had so much and actually apologized by saying her family had given her a ton of it.

I said, "Oh, that's okay. I collect Transformers, Star Wars, Pinky & The Brain, and a whole lot of other stuff that I don't have room for either."

Since then, my wife has scaled her collection down considerably and is constantly pushing me to do the same. Granted, there's a lot of Star Wars crap and other misc movie/TV memorabilia that I used to hoard in my bachelor days mostly due to having OCD. (Like anyone needs 3 dozen Stormtroopers still sealed?) And since I've become much more selective in my purchases (mostly only TFs these days) and the core pieces of my collection, my wife has become somewhat insistent that I not buy new TFs until I get rid of more of the stuff I no longer collect.

Two weekends ago, I had an Alt Rumble in my hands at Walmart and literally begged her to let me buy it. She reluctantly gave in, even though money's really tight for us right now.

And then I saw the 800 people waiting in the checkout lines and changed my mind.

She told me this past weekend that she went to three different Walmarts to buy me one for Easter and they didn't have any.

Between the years we dated and have been married, not a birthday or Christmas has gone by that she hasn't bought me a Transformer. We'd only been dating three months when she found a 20th Anniv Prime for $30 on clearance and got it for my birthday.

And it only took 33 years for God to bring her into my life. And let me tell you, she was well worth waiting for.

My GF rocks! She bought me a Brave Max for our 4yr Anniversary, plus she thinks my collection is cool, though she says its time I get my own toy room b/c the living room looks like a toy shop :D
