This is one of the better sites. I'd say the only site I really know of that's better is Transtopia, but that's mainly due to there being far less members than here.

    More people = more bitching

The only other factor I'd say is that nearly every member is an artist of some sort, and from my experience, artists generally tend to get along fairly well with each other. If you notice, there's not really much complaining in the fanart forum. Same with the kitbash forum.

Also, things are a bit more lively than usual, due to the movie. We're getting lots of new people. New members of a board tend to have a higher rate of butting heads with people. They don't really know anybody, nobody knows much about them, and it takes awhile before someone gets used to a new board. It's bound to happen.

My ignore list is 8 people long. Does it make me a jerk? Does it make the folks on the list jerks? I don't really know. What I do know is that, by deleting those people's contribution to a conversation, I'm enjoying this site more than I did before. That's all that matters to me.

I don't use the ignore button, what is a pet peeve of mine is when posters feel the need to announce in the thread that they have put someone on their ignore list...it comes across as very petty

I have to bite my tongue quite often, not just here but anywhere I post. There are lots of great people around but then there are some, and I won't name any names, who are self righteous, rude and just generally think they're better than the rest.

I read posts like that and I count to five and for the most part let it go. I've broken that personal guidelne once in awhile but really, it means very little in the grand scheme of things. I do wonder if those people are like that in 'real life'. Somehow I doubt they'd say half of what they post to your face.

The Internet provides anonimity, which lets people be far more brash, rude, and argumentative than they are in real life. Myself included, I'll confess.

That said, of the 3 online communities I'm a member of, this one is right in the middle. The hockey goaltending community I belong to is a bit less combative, likely because we actually meet each other from time to time in real life at camps and games and such. On the other hand, the motorcycle community I'm on is almost open combat: cruiser riders vs street riders vs stunters vs squids, etc etc.

This place is mostly clean and nice. The movie is probably the biggest bone of contention, but since I like the movie look and am looking forward to it I simply avoid that forum all together.

I have never really felt that people were being overly mean or they were being jerks.

That being said I think the odd noobs that come here with opinions about something that we all need to hear about are the ones that bring the negativity to the boards. Every one who has spent any time here understands the written and unwritten rules and contributes something positive to the boards.

I don't have any problems here and so far everyone I've exchanged posts in have been polite and helpful. This is definately the best board I've been among the many toy boards I visit.

That used to bug me too, until I saw who they were ignoring, and I had that same person on my list 9 out of 10 times.

I only have 3 people on my ignore list, and they aren't people who argue or insult, they are people who can't spell or use proper grammar, spam constantly, and never have a coherent thought.

People like that offend me more than any flame-baiter.

I'm Admin in a forum, and I've noted something:

    - Almost all the people that say that they have had some problems with other users have started the problems themselves. In other words, they start an argument, and then blame the rest.

    - Intolerance to what the rest think.

    - Immature way of thinking.

    - Too young and immature.

Personally, I've just had good experiences here, great place to talk about Transformers.

You know, it's kinda funny, the one person I had put on my Ignore List kept posting in threads I was interested in, and curiosity would get the better of me every time, and I would actually spend MORE time on the person by clicking on the "view post" button, thus opening up a new screen JUST for that person's post. I realized the futility of it all, and removed the person from my Ignore List, because it's far easier to ingore the person myself, rather than have the user controls point out that I'm ignoring someone.

But it did get me thinking, that it would be hilarious if there was an automatic message sent whenever you DO put someone on an Ignore List, that told the person you were ignoring that they were being ignored. "MECHADOOM is ignoring you. Think about what you have done.":lol

I used to post on another site that just felt, "stuffy" I guess, noone had a sense of humor. I have seen a lot of posts on this site that litteraly made me laugh at loud at work. To me it seems most people come here to have a good time. I guess avoiding the movie forums helps that feeling.

I've used the ignore feature a time or two and, like you, have found myself more often than not clicking on "view post". Funny.
