I was sitting here thinking about it and I was wondering what everyone's favorite alt mode for Megatron was.

I'd have to say that I like his T-rex mode the best. Running a close second is his tank mode. I was never a big fan of his handgun alt mode. Although, I do think he looks best in robot mode when his alt mode is a handgun.

So, what's your favorite alt mode for megatron? If you want, rank them in your order of preference.

 

the BW Megs and the G1 Megs arent the same character, and I pretty much like them equally. The BW Megs (especially in his TRU anniversary set form) is one of my all-time favorite TFs, but I cant get enough of gun Transformers, so there's no point in choosing. Of course, the t-rex Megs also looks good in his dragon form.

But I can easily say that the tank Megs have been underwhelming. I understand the argument that "the leader of the Decepticons makes more sense as a mobile assault weapon than a little handgun" and I even agree with it, but most of the toys that had him as a tank have been unimpressive, to me. G2 Megs was a brick with a dorky face, Hero Megs was too floppy, Titanium Megs is even floppier, Armada Megs has potential but is again a brick, and the upcoming War Within Megs has odd proportions and a lame alt mode. So until they make a tank Megs that actually looks good in both modes, it's easy for me to choose handgun

 

Yeah, I'd like to see an ass-kicking tank Megatron toy. I dig G2 for nostalgia and his character in the mini-series, but not a big fan of any of the other molds.

I know they're Transformers, but Megs was one of the characters that could honestly get by on his robot mode and character alone.

 

No love for Dragons eh?

 

I rather like the fact that Megatron's alt. modes change from series to series. It makes his designs far more interesting than Prime, who is for the most part, a red and blue truck. I would actually like to see this kind of variety with Prime himself. Keep the name, and possibly his trademark face, but mix up the rest. Make him a military vehicle, a plane, a bus or pretty much anything other than a semi. Sure there are exceptions, but for the most part Prime is always the same basic concept, whereas with Megs, you never know what your gonna get next.

 

In G1 Megatron should be a lethal hand gun.
In G2 Megatron Should be a Tank.
As a Beastie, 1. Dragon 2. Dino.

My fav alt modes are hand gun and Dragon. (I love the Red Dragon Megatron and the Blue Dragon Cryotek).

Least favorite is the Purple Dinosaur. Looks too much like Barney.

What about the green T-rex?........I really like that alt mode.

 

Tank and Dragon always made the most sense to me, but I've become accustomed to - and actually really enjoy - the fact that Megatron seems to have had a lot of variety over the years.

 

I usually stick to originals on these things...but with Megs i really never have liked the handgun due to the whole shrinking thing which has always been a heavy topic...for me Megs would have been seen much better as a turret gun...big enough to contain his robot mode mass, still very powerful and based off military equipment...(kind of like Galvatrons futuristic canon...but more modern of course)...

Second choice would nod to the tank which i think is perfect as well...

T-Rex...hmm...the only TF i want to see as Dinos/animals are the original Dinobots...(Edit: and of course Ravage & Laserbeak)...

Wonder if classics Megatron is kit Bashable into a turret gun...  

 

I would choose handgun as its gives a feeling one an impression of evil, subtleness and ruthless.

As cool as Megs is as a tank, IMO tanks modes belong to underlings and is not a unique alternate mode...one of the reasons I love Galvatron was his canon mode as it was unique...I don't recall any other Decepticons having such a mode and the cannon is definately a weapon of destructive capabilities.

 

Not really sure whyBW Megatron is being included in here when all megatrons after that aren't.

Frankly, I really liked BW Megatron. The new repaint from tarka is freaking amazing. I think the whole Barney thing is fine as he looks like a Barney that will kill you. I do wonder why they made him purple though.

As for G1 Megatron, I like the robot mode look of the original, but him being a gun always seemed silly. Never liked him as a tank though except maybe the WW design, but not that much. So I guess I'd rather him be a gun than anything else. Really the only reason they made him a tank was because they didn't want to or couldn't make him a gun anymore in the shows, or at least not without giving him crazy Classics Megs colors.

I think the best gun compromise has been a canon. That is a great altmode for him. At least then he can aim and shoot himself and when he has to move he can just transform . That would be a better compromise than a tank and I've seen it kitbashed by someone. It looked rather cool.

 

G1 megs will always be my favorite for those memories of playing guns with my friends having the koolest gun out there.

My favorite non-g1 megatron would have to be TM2 Megatron Dragon. He is pretty cool looking.

 

G1 Meg's is a great character, but I always hated his alt mode, even as a kid. It never made sense to me back then and makes even less sense to me now. I would have preferred him to be a tank, if for nothing else than to fit with the military vehicle theme that (most of) the rest of the Decepticons had.

Hmm, for me, I guess Im weird because I liked him as a handgun and a tank, although ideally he probably would be a tank, just because he could do a lot more damage and Im not really a fan of the Classic Nerf gun Megs or the twopack Megs version, but I think the G2 Megs was probably the best toy of all the originals. Never did much care for any of BW Megs forms, having a giant dinosaur head for a hand just looked so god awfully stupid too me, his TM1 form wasnt to shabby but I hated the Dragon mode for reasons similar to the original form with having some stupid head for a hand, and not to mention having the same feet in robot and alt mode, blah but then I've never been a big fan of BW designs.

 

Handgun is the best, still waiting to see a good Megatron tank. Beast Megatron, I don't care, I only like BW2 Galvatron.

Megatron was, is and always be the walther p.38 handgun, IMO.
