Back in the 80s, certain Transformers came packaged with mini-spy Transformers. At least, that's what I think they were called. That is where I got my nick from. My friends and I all took our favorite mini spy and gave them names, and made up tech specs for them. Mine was a little blue car, that I called Blueflame. Can't remember exactly what his powers were. I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find pictures of the minispies?
I always got the same damn yellow mini spy with all of my toys >_< A couple of mine are probably still around someplace.
Here ya go: http://www.tfu.info/subgroup/minispies.htm There were four styles, each in three colors, plus two factions. If my math is right, that's a total of 24 possible variations. I've got twelve of them (all style & color variations) - never bothered getting specific factions. Also, there were some variations in the wheels, if I remember correctly... so the uber-variant people have even more to track down!
these were such a neat idea to introduce the rubsigns. by the time they came out though, I had already gotten all of the minibots. I doubt they were made for the transformers line, so I wonder which japanese toyline hasbro borrowed them from?
HA. That's probably the same one my friend had. And I'd forgotten that that was how they introduced the rubsigns. Cool, you remember something new everyday. and ams, thanks for the link. BlueFlame is the blue mazda-type.
I remember them and have a few of them. They are pretty crappy but neat to have with the G1s stuff. I liked the Decoys much better. I have a complete set of those from the japanese.
I liked those things a lot as a kid. They were like a midway evolutionary step between minibots and micromasters. I too had forgotten that they had been used to introduce rubsigns. Very cool!
Yeah I'd always get the yellow ones too. I think the only ones I got were the dune buggy and the mazda type.
I only had one - the white jeep - which came with my red Bumblebee. I remember using it in the kitchen and repeatedly getting it stuck under the stove and having to fish it out. I guess that was before I started learning from experience! Sadly that spy has long since disapeared and the Bumblebee is in pieces. I've picked up a few recently though to fill out my G1 minibot collection.
If I remember correctly, minispies came from a line of their own called "Mecha Warriors". They came in little clear plastic boxes and had numbers on their chests (1-4). All four styles were available, but they only came in two colors - red and blue.
i still have some of those lying around too...i wonder how much they would sell for....i may get rid of them. they arent really doing much for my collection....
no problem BF....ill check tonight, hopefully.... anyway, here's a few on ebay as well...they get some decent money apparently.... MINI SPIES WILL MAKE YOU SELL YOUR SOUL...or not...but still, 17.50 shipped is way more then i thought they'd go for....
