I always thought Claw Jaw was a rather silly name.
And Savage/Noble is a bit naff as well.

a few years ago dreamwave gave that character the oficial name "bumper" in G1 vol 3, that name was also originally fan made but it wasn't as ridiculous as bumblejumper.

 

I think G1 holds up pretty well for names... it wasn't until a bit later that they really started scraping the bottom of the barrel, recycling names that Gobots and HeMan wouldn't touch.

Kup is a lame name. I don't care if it's short for 'picKUP truck", it's still stupid in the extreme, and whoever came up with that one should probably be slapped around for it.

And let's face it... Rodimus Prime? When as a kid, a friend of mine got a Rodimus in the first wave, just before the movie came to town, he told me he just got a "ROADimus Prime"... and even then, I was like "That doesn't sound right at all...".

Little did I know it was actually worse than that. Rodimus Prime makes him sound like Cybertron pornstar or something.

Bad names are common with the movie characters, it seems. Springer is not particularly creative. Arcee? What the hell kind of name is that?? At very best, it sounds like a phonetic spelling of RC... as in "remote control". It's bad enough that she transforms into the futuristic equivalent of a Barbie Vette, without her name recalling a toy car too!

Wreck-Gar is a bit weak too, now that I think on it...

Beast Wars is a frickin' treasure chest of bad names... but the one that gets me the most is Cheetor. Not only does he sound like a spotted yellow MOTU Beast-Man repaint, but for a major character, you'd think they could do a bit better than that. I mean, seriously!

RID has a host of GoBot-worthy names... Ro-Tor... Movor (what?)... and some just plain odd ones... X-Brawn? Mega-Octane?

Not to mention Nightcruz, which just invites you to mispronounce it.

As someone already mentioned, I think you have to be a bit lenient with the Japanese/Takara names... they are just mashing together badly translated english meanings after all.

However, for all the Japanese names that are weird, awkward or funny, I think the worst one hands-down is Jackshot! I'm sorry... that's just the wrong association to attach to a toy.

Buffalo Dump was an unused concept for a Transformer, at the very tail-end of G1. His alt-mode was a dump truck, and the cab/engine area was shaped like a buffalo's head. Some will argue that "Buffalo Dump" wasn't the actual name, but just a description of the figure that was written on the drawing.

Floating around on the internet someplace is the whole batch of concept drawings that Buffalo Dump was a part of. The pics were posted here on the boards either earlier this year or last year, but unfortunately, they seem to have been pruned.

Transformers had a wide variety of terrible names, but my best worst is always "Movor" from RiD, just because it makes almost no sense whatsoever no matter what angle you look at it. Of course, RiD was a bit of a low point in Transformer naming in general.
