Personally, yes. I feel like Beast Machines was a fitting conclusion to the G1 continuity.

Sorry but the comics are not canon. They are their own universe. Same as all transformers comics. They really need to release an official Guide and name to all the transformers realities like marvel and DC!

In japan beast wars neo was the end of G1 and had them fighting unicron but I don't think that is canon in us G1. Not sure if it was better then BM.

I consider BW an alternate continuity, so to me Zone is the end of G1.

I really don't understand why Beast Machines gets such a bad rap. It had a solid story line, story arcs instead of stand alones, got rid of the slap stick that plagued Beast Wars, and was two steps up in animation from Beast Wars. Why the hate?

All of that is true. Unfortunately, it also abandoned the unresolved plot threads from Beast Wars. It derailed the character development of some characters and took others in technically logical directions fans (and voice actors) just didn't like. It advanced the main plot far too slowly. So did Beast Wars, but while each episode of BW barely advanced the plot, it felt more like you got a complete story in every episode instead of feeling like nothing much happened. BM kinda suffers from arc fatigue (a.k.a "are they still on Namek?") which is unfortunate in a show that only really has one real arc. And while fixing the slapstick, it also became rather mirthless.

None of this would be terrible if it hadn't been the direct followup to Beast Wars or if it hadn't all been so final and irreversible. So I'll agree it was a great show, and superior in several ways... but it was a really lousy sequel.

    *has 'Nam flashback*

It-it-it's only five minutes. How long could five minutes possibly take? Right? Right?

I think Beast Machines would have been a far more satisfying sequel to Beast Wars if TransTech had been produced.

Possibly. It's really hard to say, since we don't know how that would have turned out.

So, how do you personally resolve Robotmasters?

That seems difficult to do no matter what someone thinks of as G1 canon...

Sure...but all the characters are from the same continuity in those OVAs. If you disassociate Beast Wars, then Robotmasters becomes EXTRA confusing and nonsensical.

Same as I resolve RID (2000), ignore it. It's about personal canon, mind you. I think of BW as an alternate reality, as I do with Rebirth. So they exist but have no effect on my enjoyment of G1. It's kinda like the Black September Ultraverse on. Yep, it exists. But as far as I'm concerned it was some sort of alternate timeline, and I'm still waiting on the original timeline to be published.

Nah, I get personal canon. But it's easier to dismiss RiD as Hasbro's version was intentionally written to be viewed as a reboot. Beast Wars is a lot more difficult, albeit there are outs as the series doesn't make itself clear if it's a Sunbow sequel or a Marvel sequel.

At any rate, I think we can agree that Beast Machines was the last U.S. series to continue the G1 family of continuities...so the question as to whether it is an appropriate conclusion to its particular G1 family branch still stands. At least as much as you could ask the same of Rebirth being a good conclusion or Zone (although that continuity actually moves beyond Zone to Battlestars-->OPeration: Combination-->Robotmasters...which is why I was wondering how you resolve it).

That's not saying much, considering Takara's ideas on continuity ;)

I think Beast Machines was meant as a closing chapter in a sense that, it was never meant to be final. Transtech would have seen the return of many "Ancient" characters, once again reigniting the Never-Ending Battle.

I would still love for Transtech to be revisited. Even if it's only within the Toyline, there are some great designs out there, as well as the new ones that FP came up with.

Beast Wars is some of the better writing.
I mean, Dinobot's death was an amazing scene for a 20 min cartoon.
Never got around to Beast Machines. Does it add or is Beast Wars alone enough?.
