As a character I like Omega Supreme more, I think he has a good backstory, particularly from the G1 cartoon. FM had a very good characterization in the Marvel comics, and the IDW MTMTE has done a great job with him as well. But the old G1 episode "The Secret of Omega Supreme" really connected with me, showing Omega has a bitter and scarred warrior who had seen his good friends now become his sworn enemies. That was a very powerful characterizaion.

If this were a "who would win?" then we'd have to look at what continuity. If G1 cartoon then FM would stomp Omega Supreme. In the Marvel comic FM is smaller and it could be more of a fight, with a possible advantage to Omega Supreme. In IDW, FM is smaller, so maybe an advantage to Omega there as well.

Seriously, I don't see the reason why I'd have to choose. So I won't :)

    Depends on the continuity.

In the G1 Cartoon Omega actually had a fairly compelling character thanks to "The secret of Omega Supreme", whereas Fort Max was kind of a nonentity. The opposite felt true for the comics, as Fort Max was fairly well developed there whereas Omega had a strong introduction but just kinda got benched after a few issues. IDW, though, both have been fairly well developed, Fort Max being a former prison warden who's been left emotionally scarred due to the events of LSOTW and Omega being a fairly sage-like individual, having witnessed the rise and fall of Nova Prime. Between those two I'd say that Fort Max is the more compelling character, though I still do like IDW Omega and sincerely hope he comes back sometime soon.

This for me, too. A tiny part of me died a little inside when he was killed off in the Generation 2 comic. Omega Supreme wouldn't have had the same impact.

But I'd like to point out that there are several differing incarnations of both cahracters. Your mileage will vary depending on which fiction you prefer...G1 cartoon (U.S or Japan), G1 comic, Animated, DW, IDW...

Fort Max, mostly because of MTMTE.

Omega's never really gripped me as a character.

I picked Omega Supreme, since I really like how, well, robotic he is. A giant war machine that's so determined, and so focused is pretty cool. Of course, IDW made Fort Max into a pretty compelling character, showing him suffering form PTSD, but that lasted all of, what? Two issues? Three issues? Since then, the very few (I think only two) times he's appeared, he's just been tough and mean, which aren't exactly rare traits in IDW Autobots. Never got to the point where he appeared in the Marvel comics.

Omega supreme, definitely. Not only did he manage to best every foe he had, but ,"the secret of omega supreme" is arguably one of the best episodes in g1.
TO quote whirl on fort max," "Seriously, all of this is a bit—it's a bit pathetic though, isn't it? Even for an epic, epic failure like you. I mean, not only do you practically beg the Decepticons to take G9 off your hands, but you curl up into a ball the moment Overlor—"

Fort Max by the tiniest bit for his role in MTMTE. Omega Supreme is great in Animated, but he loses points for not expanding upon his personality quite as often as Max has.

Voted Omega, although comic-wise it is definitely Maximus that shines; Marvel or IDW.
But I loved Animated and the development he'd gotten in the Sunbow cartoon. Certainly one of the episodes that stuck with me more.

Omega Supreme, when it comes to giant robots. I prefer my Fort Max to be IDW sized.

I went with Omega. He actually had an interesting character arc. The only G1 American cartoon series Autobot that I can think of that was driven by hate and revenge, so much so that he placed Earth in danger in an attempt to satisfy his desire for vengeance.

Hopefully, soon, "giant robot" and "IDW-sized" will mean the same thing. :ev:

If your only complaint about correctly-sized Fortress Maximus -- where the name actually fits what he is -- is that it's not in line with IDW, then IDW giving Maximus a giant transtector to drive around solves that problem. The "character" of Max will stay the same size as IDW has had him, and everybody wins.

    "Correctly sized."

I never got the point of Fortress Maximus because he seemed redundant next to Metroplex. Yeah, G1 Fort Max was bigger, but Metroplex was always the "iconic" Autobot cityformer to me.
Then IDW came along and reinvented him as just a slightly bigger than normal sized dude who runs a prison (thus keeping his name relevant). That gave him his own identity to me.

So yeah. I prefer IDW "normal sized" Fort Max.

It's not redundant. Metroplex is a city, Fort Max is a mobile fortress/spaceship. They serve different purposes. Also, Metroplex acted more like a tool of the other Autobots than as a character. He had a voice, but no personality. Meanwhile, Max had a backstory and personality. IDW making him the PTSD guy actually works as an update of his original US portrayal. Except this time, it made him more aggressively violent rather than a burned out pacifist.

And I think the original Japanese portrayal would work as a great template for the IDW character going forward: a normal-sized Transformer who drives around a ship that he occasionally combines with to become a giant super-badass. I don't see any cause for crying if that's what IDW ends up doing. But IDW Max didn't start out as a prison Warden, is not a prison warden now, and a prison is not really a "fortress" anyway, so the name didn't really make sense before.
