My mom's mostly supportive even if I'm starting to buy too much online these days.

My dad never understood the appeal.

My grandmother thinks I have too much, ironically she bought my first Transformer figure, Energon Rodimus.

    Bravo Grandma...Bravo.

When I was a kid, I used to love Transformers. My parents would get me the toys and comics, and basically I was pretty spoilt.

The problem was, I was still into Transformers into my teens (unlike in the US, Transformers toys were on the shelves in the UK continuously into the 90s - there was no break here between G1 and G2).

My parents thought it was a bit weird that I was still into toys, and so basically banned me from getting any more. This was probably a good move on their part, it forced me to grow up a bit.

I was out of the game completely until when, as an adult, I was wandering through a local department store (Jarrolds, in Norwich) and was intrigued by the look of these weird 'Beast Wars' figures. I picked up Magnaboss that day and haven't looked back since!

My parents actually had very little to do with me getting into Transformers. It was my brother, who bought himself Blackout from the first movie, and brought home Burger King toys of Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Megatron, who got my interest piqued. It was my brother, who got me into Ben 10, and thus, onto the Cartoon Network site, where upon we watched the promo for Transformers Animated together, who got me hooked on the brand. I owe a huge part of my life to the older of my two little brothers.

However, that being said, my mom bought me my first "proper" Transformer (one of those Legends Class Allspark Battles sets from the first movie, with Ratchet and Brawl), and she continued to buy me the rest of the Allspark Battles sets, and eventually several Movie Deluxes, 1970's Camaro Bumblebee being my favorite out of the bunch. Many of my Transformers, past and present, came from my mom. Her brothers were really into Transformers when she was a kid, and although she never cared (and still doesn't care) for Transformers, she's always been supportive of my collecting hobby (and my brother's when he was still into collecting) because I love it.

As for my dad, well, he playfully teases me by calling them "dolls", but other than that, doesn't really show an opinion on my collecting. He was too old for Transformers when it came out, and he's not interested in it today. Besides, my love of Doctor Who (which burns as brightly as my love for Transformers) is where I can connect with him.

I've actually managed to get both my sisters into Transformers, my older one unintentionally, and my younger one pro-actively. Now both are hooked in the IDW comics (my little sister adores Rung), and my little sis is re-watching the Prime series and drawing (incredibly good) pictures of Prime Starscream.

My youngest brother just likes to play with my toys with me, and is only casually interested in the media. He does like Swerve's character, though.

Sounds a bit like my mother in law, who gets politely reminded that while she was still footing all the bills for my sister in law who was in her 20's with a kid by a non-supporting father, I was busy paying all the bills for my wife (her oldest child), and taking care of our 3 kids, so my wife was able to remain home as a stay home mom for our autistic son.

Plus, my son LOVES TF, and as a bonus, so does my 3 year old daughter.

I'm happy, my wife is happy, my kids are happy, anyone else's opinions are irrelevant.

I'm not in your family, but:

"You're never too old for this"
"Stop wasting your money on shit figures"
"Grow up with your toys, and create memories"

As for me, dad bought the figures, got a grand total of 12. Mom bought the Panini stickers for the 84/85 album. Which I still have today...incomplete sadly.

Well my parents are pretty cool when it comes to my collection and hobby. My dad is happy that I'm not doing drugs so he doesn't really mind. He just asks "is this a package for me or not?". My mom on the other hand goes the extra mile. She saw the first two movies with me, went to Botcon in 2010 with me, went to TFcon in 2014 and heck she even has some transformers appeal and an Autobot symbol for her car.

I do the same, completely understand the feeling. Its great to have this extra thing we can share together and spend time with each other.

My dad never took interest in stuff like that . when we got into high school he took interet in the sports we played with but for the first 15 or so years of my life I did not have much to share with him. I feel lucky my boy likes transformers, I feel lucky that I saved and kept all my Transformers in good care and stored them in boxes to protect them, so now I can either give them to my boy or get new version of the toys that came out. I love sitting down and watching the shows with him. We started with g1 and we are going through the seasons, we just started the JPN series so its great that I will be able to pick up a bunch of new modern sculpts of the characters from those seasons. and the ones that DONT have modern sculpts I have my old g1 toys to give him.

I have a thread that I update a couple times of year, just showing my boy and his transformers collection and such .............

Greetings! Is this place still alive? I found it in a search looking for a thread to drop off a portion that I edited out of my "I am new to this board," post.

Anyway, here's my piece: I've been buying TF figures and comics since that one fateful afternoon (circa 2005-2006) when I asked my dad, "Who are Transformers?" He thought about it for a while, mentally traveling back to the 80s before telling me all that he remembered about "robots who could turn into vehicles, like cars and jets, and even creatures, like dinosaurs and insects. Just like Voltes V or Voltron!" Days later he came home with a handful of back issues from a local comics/magazine store; Dreamwave's stuff that doesn't hold up to today's comics standards, but back then I was hooked! Since then, I spiraled off on my own, traversing the wiki for years of my childhood, leading to today where I am thoroughly obsessed with the franchise of converting robot toys. Me and my dad still regularly go on adventures to the comic shop nearby or the hobby stores in Japan, though he's collecting 70s-80s stuff, while I'm buying the new, updated things that are based off the old.

They don't understand my obsession with this line; I'm in my early 40s, them in their late 60s.

Oh hahaha little misunderstanding there. I meant that we regularly, i.e. annually visit Japan and we include stores like Mandarake on our shopping itinerary. Still, thanks for the welcome!

My parents have 0 understanding of Transformers or why I like it. They keep saying "You're 16, you're too old to buy toys." but I don't listen.

I wish my parents, mainly my mother, would realize that what I do w/ my money is my business instead of telling me to stop buying toys.

Don't I know it. My stepdad use to constantly tell me how my interest in Transformers was ridiculous with me being a full grown woman. But fortunately he seems to be coming around lately, he sat down and watched an episode of Prime with me and he even got me a shelf for my current collection of Transformers when he noticed I was running out of room on my dresser.
