As it's Thanksgiving and the Macys parade is happening down in the States, I've remembered something a long time ago from the Annual Toronto Santa Claus Parade.
There was a Beast Wars themed float which was Gorilla mode Optimus Primal with two men dressed as Cheetor and Megatron on top of it.
Does anyone else remember this?

 

I do not, but then again I'm not from Canada.

Pics would be nice though.

 

I tried to, but sadly I wasn't able to find any so far. If anyone has pics, that would be great.

 

Oh my God, I remember this! I absolutely remember it. They called them the "Beasties" because you know that old shit, and I thought it had more characters on it.

That was.... a very weird thing to see.

 

There was a beast wars float... well I sadly don't recall it I guess due to my young age at the time.

 

I would've been six or seven, and I distinctly remember watching it on the upstairs tube TV.

I seriously thought I imagined it. Man I want to find this so bad.

 

I wish i could see footage of this Beast Wars float.

and yes in Canada we called it Beasties since yanno' No Wars.  

 

Which makes me think, did Canada never get Star Wars then?

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we got Star Wars. That rule only applied to television, I think.

I think specifically it had something to do with audience rating or something. Beast Wars was considered too child-centric to have "wars" in the title or something. Star Wars less-so. (and I guess it was also a bigger brand)

It didn't last long, and was pretty inconsistent, since the VHS releases at the time had the proper title, as did the toyline. And when it re-aired via syndication a couple of years later, it was again "Beast Wars."

Same thing happened with War of the Planets/Shadow Raiders.

 

 

Welp, tried to google it and all I got was the muppets and Beauty and the Beast.

And for whatever reason, Mickey Mouse riding an Xwing.  

 

I always hoped that whoever decided to rename the show "Beasties" in Canada et al got fired. Okay, no "wars," I get that. But "Beasties" was the best you could come up with? It sounds like the My Little Pony version of the show. That person did not deserve a marketing career.

 

Dang, wish someone had the pics.... would love to see it as we were living outside the USA at that time....

Well we don't do Thanksgiving parades in Canada (Thanksgiving in Canada is in mid-october), it would have been the Santa Claus Parade (which is about this time). It would have likely been between 1995-1998, however.

I can't find anything with a quick search, I'm afraid.

 

Either there are no pics on the net or I am using the wrong set of words. google shows nothing...RATS! I'd love to see this float.

 

If that was from the 1990s, then that's eerily prophetic.

 

BW was beasties in canada if i remember, they replaced everyone saying beastwars with beasties and changed the logo
