So about Vanishing Returns... my Xfinity service was recently upgraded and thanks to the Tablet I got for my birthday I was able to access my DVR recordings without being at my house. I bring this up because my ex doesn't get Discovery Family so this is the first episode I've actually seen with my step son.

Because of this, my opinion of this episode is totally bias and is now my favorite episode for reasons that have nothing to do with the actual content of the episode. He can't talk and there's times where I wish he could, but then there's times like this where just his reactions say more than words ever could. I started the episode and he had a big smile on his face like "You have cartoons on that thing!?" So yeah, even if this was the worst episode of the series, it's totally worth it to me just to see that happy smile on his face.  

I'm going to be babysitting this Saturday night as well so I'm going to wait to watch the new episode with him.

 

D'awwww. Nice little story Saber, it's always a treat when you can share RB with the young ones in our lives.... no matter their age.

Also I swear Quickshadow was flirting with Heatwave and I was giggling like a school girl. XD Blades teasing Heatwave about "missing her" was very funny.

 

Very good ep! Gotta love the whole spin on the "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast. That was so hilarious! Loved it, just a super fun ep! Gotta love Chase tho..."Please line up in alphabetical order! Pirate does not come before ninja!"

 

Lol, I like how Evan just speaks in grunts. Also, yay for Quickshadow.

I like the idea of Earlyween as well, living North of Canada, I've seen some Halloweens where everyone wore coats over their costumes (and I have a heavy wool version of my costume so I can be outside for long periods without freezing).

The ending was fun, it was kind of like Invasion of the Body Snatchers inverted, where Evan and Miles being the outsiders are the bad guys and everyone in on the secret "invasion" are the good guys.

 

  Evan and Miles are really behind current events on the island.
Guess they don't get to read the local news while in jail.


Now, as for QS.. she pulled a Batmobile maneuver and went a little James Bond car in the ocean.

man, i love the Rescuebots. they are the Transformers's franchise crime-fighting/emergency-responding element, sort of like the franchise's Batman. But I also like the quiet, non-violent, non-war aspect of it, with stories that basically put Transformers enjoying daily life on Earth and their relationship with a family of emergency responders. i love Boulder and him making portraits and going to the library. i love the quirky Blades and his favorite past-time playing video games. Chase being the genius on the team along Boulder and Heatwave although a leader has his comedic moments. i love this different take/re-invention of the Transformers.

i really, really hope they can do a live-action spin-off of the Rescuebots. already waiting for the new episode in 30 minutes. and whoever made this/thought of this, great work.

Me: Why would he be expecting Starscream, Cade doesn't even know who that is... Did Heatwave just break the 4th wall to deliver a joke about Steve Blum that only a tiny fraction of the audience will understand? Considering how young most of their audience is I don't think there are a lot of people who actually got that joke.

 

I haven't seen the ep yet, but I'm pretty sure that was a joke for the older audience. RB does that a lot really.

 

Maybe I didn't make this clear but I'm pretty sure not every kid who watches this show has parents who know enough about Transformers to realize that Steve Blum is both Heatwave and Starscream. The majority of their audience isn't going to get that joke.

Plus it's not even clear if Heatwave was actually breaking the 4th wall or not. Even if you get the joke the way it was delivered didn't even sound like it was suppose to be a joke. My first thought was actually "Why is he mentioning Starscream, Cade doesn't know who that is." It took me a while to even realize it was a reference to their shared voice actor. I probably would of gotten that right away if he were directly talking to the audience. As it is, I'm just left questioning why Heatwave said that. Does he know about Steve Blum? If he doesn't then why did he mention Starscream to a character that doesn't know about Starscream?

If this was actually a 4th wall break, this is the worst 4th wall break I've ever seen... Wait... didn't Steve Blum also voice Deadpool at some point? He must not be a very good Deadpool if he can't deliver that line right.

 

Overthink much? While I'm sure it IS a joke about Blum, it's also a totally common sarcastic joke. "[Person], is that you?" "Who were you expecting, [ridiculous person it could never have possibly been]?" "(ie: "Of course, it's me, who else was it going to be?")

 

Ok, watched the ep. And I agree with this as well. It also suggests that character with the whole amber-looking statis pods, kinda like the walking cane.

Good ep overall. Of course, I like any eps with them in their dinobot forms. I wonder if Quarry will be back as a bad guy or not...or reluctant ally again...it was a good spin on that. And personally, I found the joke about Starscream funny. Just a lil thing thrown out there for TF fans in general I think.

 

The Starscream comment was FANtastic! Loved it.... kinda unexpected as they rarely (if ever- IDR) have mentioned Cons, but then that's why it was a great fan nod.  

Loved that the bots were in Dino mode most of the ep, nicely done.

 

I can see it now. Optimus is abducted and Heatwave finds him.

"Optimus Prime, is that you sir?"

"Who did you expect? Megatron?"

 

Heatwave said Starscream because both characters are voiced by Steve Blum. Optimus is voiced by Peter Cullen so why would he mention a character he's never voiced before? To make the joke the same as Heatwave Optimus would more likely mention Ironhide. That would make it a G1 nod which means ever less people will get it than the Heatwave/Starscream joke which is more recent. But Ironhide is the second most popular Transformer voiced by Peter Cullen.

 

Then again, people who don't watch Prime, would not get the reference. Based on the show's intended audience, I doubt the intended audience watched Prime. I didn't even pick up why they chose Starscream to be mentioned until you reminded me that Steve Blum voiced both characters. However, it is a funny to the people who actually watched Prime.
