But Transformers makes everything better! :)

But seriously, take your time, but don't let an awesome project like this end completely, like so many have before! This might give me a chance to catch up and join in though. :)

I watched Legend earlier tonight (1985, Tom Cruise, Tim Curry). It suddenly hit me that Tom's character is named Jack & the fairy in love with him is named Oona.

    Jack & Oona.

    Jack & Una.

Beast Wars writers- also fans of Legend. :)

Saw some in the show Charmed. The writers had several homages to G1 and even BW.

    RE: S3:E2 - Deep Metal

One of his best scenes IMO.

Well, like at the beginning of Season 2, that surge it knocked both Predacon and Maximal out. So the pilot was probably taking a nap while the ship was falling.

    Depth Charge.

    How toy accurate :lol

    :lol

    Corny line for a cat.

Either the water, or the blast took more out of him than expected.

    HAHA!!!

    Brutal, eh?

    Cartoon law.

    Gotta showcase the new toy/power.

    Yes it was.

    Simple and effective.

Well, Transmetal Maximals was a new thing. The non-show characters have no idea about this stuff. Remember even Ravage was surprised by their look. And Optimus is a little more than just a simple Transmetal.

Adds one more point to badass cred.

    Apparently not.

    He took it pretty well.

    Nope.

    I'd say different.

This guy was no buddy buddy with Optimus before, he has revenge on his mind, and he doesn't seem like a "dick", but more of a "hardass".

    Yep.

Yes it is. Hopefully you'll enjoy what's coming up.

    Oof.

    What a.

From 17 years ago. It's like a causality loop.

His friends call him Depth Charge, his enemies call him... Depth Charge as well.

    He's Batmanta.

I loved that part in Gremlins when Gizmo's phone lost reception after he got wet. :p

    A scratch.

    Power pizzas!

He's literally only good for distracting at this point, but hey, he is good at it.

Have you really seen any Autobot that looks like that, though?

    Yes.

    Nope.

Great to have you back, Mike. Love the Avatar.

Not really Animated Sentinel was a jerk because he blamed Optimus for Elita's death, but he was a bit of an exhaust port before that too. While we don't get to see what Depth Charge was like before his encounter with Protoform X we do get the idea that he was not quite the ass he is when he shows up here. I really think along with Animated Ratchet Depth Charge suffers from PTSD.
Glad your back, hope every thing is OK for you.

Oooh, Depth Charge episode, I was meaning to get in on this one. Perfect timing.

I hear ya. It's cause people/kids are more keen to watch something with not-dated animation and shiny robots doing backflips than something like Beast Wars. I myself have never had a problem with the animation, but I know other people do, so...

I figure Netflix just wouldn't consider a CGI cartoon from the 90s as something a lot of people have been wanting.

And Inferno loves y- the royalty.

I mean, they gotta get down there somehow.

    Also--

...You are a swift one, Mr. Cat.

I think this is actually what I called him when I first watched the show. I think him being called that would make him even more broody than he already is.

    They're his babies.

Fanfiction told me so. (I actually can't remember if he every uses it again.)

Wasn't it because of his unique spark signature? I can't remember if it covered what they used for Rampage's spark yet, but I imagine that has something to do with it. Or I'm wrong.

I actually just assumed you had already heard the quote in the past and was just repeating it for the sake of commentary. Universe hates Waspinator has been referenced a couple of times in the past. It's definitely one of the more memorable quotes from Beast Wars.

I remember the creators saying how they wanted to have characters swear, so they invented "to the pit" and "slag" to fill the gap. Since it's a kids show. I imagine what Cheetor meant to say is: "WHO THE SHITTING HELL ARE YOU?"

You know how Dinobot had those rare grins and moments of warmth that stood out because it directly contrasted with his more aloof and noble personality?

This is not Dinobot. Depthcharge is perpetually frowny. Unless he does smile at some point that I can't remember. In which case you are free to send me hate-mail as punishment.

Pretty neat, huh? I always liked the variety Beast Wars gave us. Prime never did introduce a flying Autobot (unless you want to count Prime with a jetpack) or a triple changer. And even Animated treated flyers and triple-changers as special occurrences and featured 1 (counting Safeguard as one since Jetfire and Jetstorm were essentially the same character) representative for each. Which is fine for what they intended with the rules of that Universe, but Beast Wars gave both beast modes, as well as secondary vehicular modes for the upgraded maximals that allows a number of them to swim, fly, and do all sorts of junk. And that was just the norm. In fact that's not even counting the fuzors, which is something that hasn't been done since.

Yeah, that's what happens. It was a time before waterproof phones were ever introduced. And I have yet to see an actual waterproof phone.

I think Having a guy as heavy as Rampage on top of you makes it difficult to control your flight. Maybe he has a degree of control over Depthcharge's path by focusing his weight. Or I'm just bullshitting. Who knows?

    Beast Wars gets grim, dude.

This is actually probably one of the bigger flaws Beast Wars Season 3 has to offer. As Optimal Optimus is now the most powerful character of the show, the showrunners couldn't include him in many scenes, as he'd just wipe the floor of the Predacons and be done with it. That's why most scenes featuring him in Season 3 show him either chilling at base, arriving after the battle is had, or the Preds having the drop on him and more or less wrecking him until the plot allows for him to be successful.

He does have some awesome fight scenes later, but you can see why making him uber-powerful forced them to take some liberties.

I totally forgot his backstory was introduced in his introductory episode.

Depth Charge kind of takes over for Dinobot as the character getting in the most trouble with the other Maximals, next to Rattrap, of course, who's always been a shit-stirrer.

Don't get me wrong, they are still vastly different characters that go in vastly different directions, but he does fit that sort of category.

Well, it's not like they'd end his arc right off the bat. This was more or less the establishing chapter of Depth Charge's story.

See? He's a dick. He's more of a dick to Cheetor out of pure professionalism than Dinobot to Rattrap. But more than not, Rattrap deserves it.

The others changed. I think the idea is that as the crew's captain he sort of reserves the right to maintain his name. Remember he was the only Maximal not to go "And I'm... [INSERT NAME HERE]!"

Maybe? I never really noticed. The episode might have been rushed. It happened before.

    He's good like that.

Dinobot for the first half of Season 1 was kind of this. Remember how he hated Primal's authority but begrudgingly put up with it? Obviously towards the end he showed clear respect for his leader, but it did start out kind of rough.

He's surprisingly less of a dick. Depthcharge, I mean. Probably because his backstory is more tragic than Sentinels. Also because Sentinel acted like a dick before his experience with Blackarachnia.

Well remember, the Maximals kind of want to go home. Having a ship that can take them back would solve all their problems. Can't really have that, and its Depth Charge's ship, so it is most fitting that Rampage does the deed.

I also realize that I can never tell how sarcastic your "oh boys" are. Not telling you to stop or anything, just an observation.

Good to have you back, man. These watching for the first time threads are the best Beast Wars related thing for me at the moment.

RE: S3:E3 - Changing Of The Guard

    It's possible, but not really.

Without a shield, that tends to happen.

Remember when we had to wind our phones before using it?

    I like that whole sequence.

I actually LOL'ed when I first watched this ep too.

    :lol

    Yay!!!

    :D
Unexpected fun moments is what made the show for me.

    OMG!!!

After all that goofy stuff, some decent quick action.

    :lol
    Poor Waspy.

Doesn't this remind of that "football" sequence in G1's Five Faces of Darkness Part 5?

    :p

That, seriously, is NOT good for the Maximals.

Sorry to hear things aren't going so well in your life man, I hope things get better soon.

It's okay if you don't want to finish the blog, but if you do you've only got 3 and a half hours left of material until it's over, finished. I recommend you finish it when you've got the free time, there is a lot more stuff from season 3 you would love in terms of what happens to the characters and a few more moments from G1. I would love to see your thoughts on the next 10 episodes, but only if you want to. I hope the situation in your life is resolved soon, take care of yourself until then. :)

I hope things work out man.
I… and it looks like quite a few of us, have really enjoyed your BW blog…Reliving it again through someone else's eye was quite enjoyable. Not to mention you're a funny dude.
Again, thanks for what you have done… I do (selfishly) hope to see it cont. thru to the end… but most importantly, I hope things turn around.
    Good luck!
