Also, I know it's a long way off, but when you start season 2, skip the intro. It spoils every new developement of the season opener. :lol

    Yeah that's some good advice.

I usually like it how some shows (mostly in anime i've noticed) usually don't show the new opening till the end of the first episode.

I know it's offtopic but I felt like bringing that up.

Nah you right. I remember Power Rangers in Space had a special first intro avoiding character spoilers.

Rattrap actually gets a bit less of a jerk as the series goes…….wait unit you get to A Better Mousetrap or The Low Road for good moments with him and Dinobot.

Rattrap is of course one of the show's more popular characters, ranking up there with Waspinator, Tarantulus, Dinobot, Optimus Primal, Beast Wars Megatron, Silverbolt (introduced in Season 2, not a Aerialbot), Inferno.

This is the series I have a strong connection to, as it got me back into Transformers after a few years of losing touch with the line. This is maybe what started the ball rolling for Transformers to become a house hold name again, notice that nowadays, Hasbro views Transformers as one of their Top Lines that gets all attention, along with Nerf and Star Wars (and for girls an Bronies, I guess My Little Pony) while GI Joe has suffered from the current anti war viewpoint thanks to various conflicts today and thus seems relegated to just being a repaint/ exclusive line it is now

Make sure you have tissues ready for Code of Hero, it's maybe one of the best episodes of the series

G1 still did it the best...not nostalgia speaking either. Intros for 3 seasons were really different from each other. But Season 3 and 4 is virtually the same difference with Prime BH's intro vs their first 2. Even the Season 3 premiere intro was different from the rest of the season.

BW had dramatically different visuals, even though the 85%+ of the audio is the same. Which is still a plus in my book.

Honestly, who really wants to watch the same intro for 50+ episodes?

Hell, even Armada changed their intro visually mid-way through.

I think you left out the parts of why, the plot, the characters, and the impact of the show.

    :rolleyes2

    Predacons.

There's a reason he was inducted into the Transformers Hall of Fame by fans.

As legend goes, Waspinator's repeated abuse came from the fact that his buzzing, droning method of speech took up so much time for such a minor character that it annoyed the writers when trying to write his dialogue under the scene time constraints. So they'd just trash him every episode so he wouldn't have to talk. This not only endeared him to fans, but also the writers, which only made things worse for Waspy...

It's hard to tell if Dinobot is joking, or still looking at a chance to grab the leadership role. :lol

Basically. Protoforms are the dormant crewmates of the Maximals, but while as Protoforms they're essentially "unborn." Sparks in simplistic bodies. They can either be recovered and returned to their Maximal states, or completely reprogramemd as Predacons with new personalities.

There will be, but Rhinox is a pretty laidback guy. He prefers hanging back and letting other people have the spotlight. But his time will come.

Only if they're not strong enough to be concious, like under repairs.

Well I mean it's not like he can alter it. It's basically just a way to speak with someone while they're out cold for repairs.

Really, people say "yes" a lot regardless. He just does it even more with greater emphisis. (he says "Yes" 166 times over the show's entire course)

Y'know how the Maximals are all explorers with minimal wartime combat experience? Well the Preds (aside from Megatron) are basically pretty crooks more akin to a gang than an army. Basically whoever was stupid enough or insane enough to follow a guy named "Megatron."

    They went around.

Those striped leopards. (They're tigers of course)

Much like Cheetor being called "Cheeter" early on, Tigatron is sometimes mispronounced Tigertron due to being extremely similar.

    Blu Mankuma. <3

Tigatron's cool because he's a nature lover that still kicks ass. He also has a really great episode closer to the end of season 1. Wheeljack from Transformers Prime was like Tigatron in that he was an "away" member.

This is probably where BW hits it's stride. The actors are all fully settled into their roles and the story has established it's foothole on the characters and how they work.

Well the most advanced thing on the planet is a bunch of rocks so a lot of the more forward plot elements come from space.

Huh, I never even noticed that. (the next ones don't, though. Minor spoiler)

Poor Optimus. The curse of being just a regular guy (albeit with some sweet mods like a jetpack) and not Transformers' Jesus like Optimus Prime.

    He's actually twidling his thumbs.

Fairly humble beginnings for such an important character. All she does is pose a bit and then kind of nothing much else this episode.

Bow-chicka-wow-wait Tarantulas does know that Black Widows kill their mates, right?

    "Ah, situation normal then."

Plot twist: Rattrap isn't actually an enlarged rat, he's a normalsized rat, just from Mexico. (because Mexico has giant rats, ha?)

Rattrap's always there to help. :D

    Lugnut's cooler. :D

This is quite ironic. I won't say why, though.

Makes me wonder why we don't, eh?

Rattrap didn't choose the Rat life, the Rat life chose him.

Or an old person describing the internet.

Again, highly ironic given how the character will progress.

"I'm so full of luck, it's shootin' out like luck diarrhea!" (It's bad luck, unfortunately.)

Sneaky beavers. (and by beavers I mean rat and gorilla)

Amazing what he can do when he's not a total fuckin' turd 24/7, right?

Bit late, but a little back of background. It's indeed a continuation of G1 with elements of both the cartoon and the comics. They are now a lot smaller than the old G1 Transformers so they're more energy efficient (a lot like the Marvel comics Micromasters) and have the ability to mimick organic altmodes (a lot like the Pretender technology).

The G1 was is over -- we don't know when or how -- and the Autobots have won. The Maximals are descendent of the Autobots (how, we don't know) and the Predacons from the Decepticons. There's been 300 years of peace (first episode) and Cybertron is now mostly controlled by the Maximals (since the Autobots won the war) while the Predacons feel not only restricted, but they also feel blamed for the current energy shortage.

You ain't seen nothing yet. The quote Waspy himself:
    WHy univerzzz hate Wazzpinatorrr???

That's what I thought originally, but I think it was (and is limited to) just talking with him while he was being repaired.

    never enough :D

Unlike all other series, in BW neither party is really the best there is. Megatron isn't the leader of all Predacons and his troops are just those who he managed to convince to come along with him. (That's also why Dinobot rebelled in the first episode: Megatron failed to deliver on his promise to bring them to an energy rich planet). There far from the best there is.

The Maximals are just the crew for an exploratory ship whose mission was scrapped because this group of Predacons stole the Golden Disk. With Rattrap there's the hint that he's seen action before, but this was likely Optimus his first command.

At the start of the first episode, when they realised they were crashing, the Maximals ejected all their stasis pods. It's an exploratory ship where outside of the operators (the maximals we now have), the entire crew consisted of unborn Maximals. They would go to an unknown planet, take local forms and learn what they could learn, and then get back to Cybertron.

And all those unborn Maximals now orbit this planet in not too stable orbits.

Poor guy. Still my favourite Optimus ever.

Little fun background: the animators took the guy who had to make BA out to a strippersclub the prior evening. BA was the result.

Seems like a good idea. Escape or move too wildly and you likely fall down and won't be able to walk away from it.

What the frag?! New eps? Gah!!!

    RE: S1:E7 - Fallen Comrades

    *nods*

Most people do. Hence he's in BotCon's HOF, homaged the Animated series, and a Generations figure.

You noticed this already? We're only still early in Season 1.

Hasn't been really done since this series, but as a TF fan how is this way of introducing new characters? I'm not counting ARM's discs that become Mini-Cons the same thing.

Audio gag....there's more in the series. Along with visuals. But then you've seen some already, so yeah...it's a trait of this series.

    :D

I'm sure if you were still 7, you would have cheered.

It's a good voice. He's done lots of TV as well.
    ==========================================================
    S1:E8 - Double Jeopardy
Doesn't every series in the TF franchise has this happen? Remember Prime?
Hopefully you remember in the premiere the Maximals had to eject their stasis pods. They probably thought they were going to die, and thus save some of their crew.

    More like twiddling his thumbs.

    Wouldn't you?

    Oh yeah.

    He's a dirty rat.

Honestly, this might have homaged that bit...but written better.

Glad to see a 1st time viewer noticed that...and yes it was.

Another subtle thing this series does that makes us fan love it.

Plus he's more successful than G1 Starscream too.

Other than the live action movies, doesn't every series have an extremely loyal minion following Megatron?

I'm sure many 14 yr old boys would have too.

    Or clever writing?

Pretty violent for a kids cartoon? Yesssss? :lol

I'd like to think that's another visual gag.

He's not a dumb monkey, eh?

    Welcome to the club.

Yay Rattrap's awesome and so is Tigatron's voice.

Really the whole voice cast is amazing, one of the best voice casts they've assembled from Vancouver in the nineties.

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread earlier, and all I can say for starters is that this is going to be good, yeeeeeees.

That and once season two comes around you'll likely be enjoying the show even more.

    Well that's just prime.

Black widows have their reputation, but actual tarantulas don't have it easy either. When courting a female, a male tarantula needs to hold up her fangs and carefully guide her to where he's laid down the loving; if he so much as slips up on his grip, he risk getting fangs right through the face. To humans, this is equivalent to dancing with a nice girl who happens to be clutching some knives.

Most arachnid lovings in general basically involve the male having to go through convoluted rituals, tricks and peace signs to avoid his other half brutalising him.

    This is beautiful.

Well said. We're looking at robots in the future, hence why they've got the on-board computers, advanced regeneration tanks, organic fursuits and all that jazz.

Essentially. Basically Optimus is having a lie-down and Dinobot is coercing him to wake up for a moment via the computer pulling up his general consciousness.

Pretty much. It's a bunch of shoddy rebels and a bunch of shoddy explorers on a shoddy planet stuffed with shoddy crystals fighting a shoddy war. Hardcore.

    Be still, my spinnerets.

The live-action films, if only the first one, did have Blackout, who's eager to declare everyone to hail Megatron when Starscream makes the call, as well as being the con to try and help his leader via preparing to ambush Optimus.

Too bad that little trick got waylaid by missiles.

Well I mean they probably dug a great deal of it.

Much like most Predacons, she defaults to force before words.

And it's no one-off throwaway contraption! Sentinel will persist as the Maximal's defense system.

    Yes he is. :3

I doubt Rattrap would be as popular if he is if he was the same level of obnoxious, but without the other characters pointing out how much of a turd he is.

    Yes he is. :3

I mean his head spins everytime he transforms.

    He's just that fast.

The ship is named Axalon, the defense system is Sentinel.

Boy are their faces red. (they are actually not red)

The best part is, if this had actually worked, it's sole purpose is to make intruders trip and fall constantly, unable to gain any sort of footing. Effective and potentially hilarious.

Totally radical dude. (though at least BW did it faceciously)

How can something be a real fake?

I mean they're establishing it now. This is her second episode.

    OR the best pool ever.

I mean Dinobot said as much. (after this the effort is put less on counter-intrusion and more on just blowing up Preds before they get a chance to enter)

    :lol

Well I mean he's laughing because Rattrap isn't dead.

    RE: A Better Mousetrap

He has been in the front lines much, so he spends a lot of time tinkering with stuff. A pretty decent homage to Wheeljack back then.

    :D

From the preceding line, it gave us a little detail about Tigatron. He's a stalker or predator. Makes you wonder what he does off-screen since he's not at the Maximal base?

Have you picked up on the background music and FX they used in the series for upcoming humor or shenanigans?

Yeah, he's dirty rat. Striking an ally from behind. :p

Well it makes sense to call a defense system "Sentinel", right? These guys aren't warriors, they're the middle of nowhere, and they can't stay in the ship all day and forever.

Slippery floors, you can't be too much of a threat if you're can't move around freely and balanced. Did you ever watch the movie The Transporter? That scene with all the oil.

The music...I was a teen when I first saw this, and I cracked up. The music and the visual of a rat surfing....without being scared and actually having fun.

Plus that last bit where he was leaving only to turn back to wave at the camera...CLASSIC!!! (and the music)

I believe this is the first time we see shields in action in the TF franchise. We saw the shield effects earlier (and shields in G1), but this scene is where I believe a first concentrated fire at a shield, and it was holding.

I believe that was a maintenance shaft.

    :lol

    :lolol

Yeah, it got me too back then. The music, the zoom out, and the closing black circle.

But that "Oh boo, boo hoo, don't stop now, you motor heads are killing me." was a big defining character moment. That sarcastic arrogance.

    RE: S1:E10 - Gorilla Warfare

It reminds kids that it's never to late to learn, and learning new things is good.

    :D
So G1, and yet, it's not.

Party like it's 1999, and Primal is bring the party poppers!!!

You count how many hits Primal took from Tarantulus?

File this sequence under the series Top 50 moments.

I hope this ep made you feel a lot better.

It went from action to tense to humor seamlessly didn't it?

The bug on Megatron back made me laugh back then, when you consider his little T-Rex arms are smaller on him than it was when Dinobot had to deal with the spore seed earlier.

As for Dinobot, you appreciate who people are more when they're gone, and you want them back. Dinobot probably missed being the angry badass when Primal was infected.

In all seriousness, great thread PPProductions! I'd like to hang around and read the posts but I might be hitting up Beast Wars one of these days so I've only read the most recent entry and will save the rest. :)

Have fun and enjoy the show!
