Okay, so Nebulans are the humanoid race that live on the planet Nebulos.

But where does Nebulon come into it? I've seen it refer to both the people and the planet.

 

I'd assume it's used to describe things pertaining to the Nebulans. Like buildings, for example. It sounds better saying "A Nebulon building," than something like "A building built by the Nebulans," or "A building on Neublos."

That, and maybe people just constantly misspell Nebulan. I know I certainly do.

The inhabitants of Nebulos have been referred to as both Nebulans and Nebulons depending on which fictions you are following.

In S4, Rebirth part 1, when the Autobots crash on the planet and are taken hostage by machine-haters, they ask what planet they're on.
The reply is "Nebulon"

...then for the rest of the series, the planet is called Nebulos.

I don't remember what the comic did, but it *could* have called both planet and people "Nebulon".
I say this because the comic version of Transformers the Movie called a planet and inhabitant both "Quintesson".

My preference is
Nebulos = planet
Nebulan = the people

 

Don't forget Nebulon also refers to the super fuel.

I would venture Knightsword was thinking of the similarly named, yet distinct, Nucleon.

 

Possible, yes. 'Cuz TFWiki doesn't even have a separate "Nebulon" entry.

The only other use of the name would be the Japanese name of Nightstick, the Targetmaster partner of Ricochet (Stepper).

 

My preference is Nebulon. As in someone from Nebulos is a Nebulon. It just makes more sense to me linguistically.
