Tough enough to take on Galvatron and win. Mentally strong enough to destroy Unicron. Powerful enough to kill Shockwave. (In the UK anyway!) Deaths Head is a badass. But I’d like to know more about what others know and think about him. This is directed mostly towards Transformers fans outside of the UK and to those newer fans who may not be that aware of this iconic figure. Equally, anybody with details and information about the bounty hunter can share their own thoughts. I wonder if those outside of the UK even consider him to be a proper part of the world of the Transformers. For the record? I cannot understand why we haven’t yet seen a Third Party Masterpiece style action figure of Deaths Head. I also continue to be frustrated that he is still owned by Marvel and as such, we will probably never see him appear in a Transformers comic again. I am certain in my own mind that Deaths Head is the best non Transformers character to ever appear in any Transformers comic or cartoon and has had more impact than any other character to boot. I love this guy. He killed my all-time favourite Transformer, and I still love him for it. That’s dedication! What do you think/know of Deaths Head?
This is still my darkest day as a Transformers fan. Losing Shockwave was painful. As painful as an Optimus fan losing him in the animated movie. Yes........... that painful. Having said that, I still love Deaths Head and can forgive him of this ghastly act of violence! Here is the end of Shockwave. I thought he might be okay and DH squishes his brain!
Definitely an interesting and fun member of the Transformers universe who got absorbed into the Marvel Universe where he was not very interesting or fun.
Awesome and fun character who helped make the marvel uk comic so entertaining. Echo the sentiment that I'd love to see a classics or masterpiece rendition of him. He would fit in superbly in robert's mtmte!
Since Marvel owns him, a third party company doing him may face the wrath of The Mouse's lawyers. Unlike Hasbro, The Mouse doesn't f*** around!
They did release a version in the marvel universe line. Does that count? I know nothing about him.It wasn't until after he had been in marvel for years before i ever learned he was a TF character.
Loved Death's Head! In the 80s, my Canadian comic book store would get some of the selected UK titles, including Transformers and Action Force. I wasn't collecting them, but I remember the first appearance of Death's Head. Really stood out somehow, aside from the obvious differences of being a non-Transformer robot antagonist in a TF comic. When I read more of those original UK stories, I have to admit, he got to be a bit much... the way he stomped his way through normally super-powerful bots like Galvatron, Shockwave, Cyclonus, Scourge, etc... by the time he got to the "battling Unicron on the astral plane" business, I felt he had gone too far. It was like Furman had realized that he had a popular anti-hero character on the go, and was prematurely "Wolverining" him. Up until the point that he crossed that line, I really enjoyed his portrayal as a cunning, sometimes funny, but seriously credible adversary, who somehow represented that there was a larger universe out there, beyond the Decepticon/Autobot conflict. I also remember his appearance in Dragon's Claws, which I loved. Somehow, although I collected it for a while, I never enjoyed his solo series as much. The new costume wasn't an improvement, in my opinion, and the goofier tone of the series didn't appeal to me. Maybe that's why I don't like Deadpool comics now? Also, I had ZERO interest in Death's Head II. That lame, Liefeld-Predator-looking overblown grimdark design really had none of the charm of the original. Screw Death's Head II. Waste of time! Stay in the 90s where you belong! Maybe part of the problem is that Death's Head works best as a supporting character. He is part of a cast of elements, but as soon as you put him in the central role, he's sort of limited. It's a shame that Marvel owns Death's Head now... obviously they realized that they didn't want to leave a potentially popular character in Hasbro's clutches, so they were quick to spin him off into other Marvel series. On the plus side, I'm happy to see he's still being used in a supporting role capacity in Marvel. I have to admit I was tickled to be reading Marvel's S.W.O.R.D. a number of years ago, when Death's Head turned up not only as an intergalactic bounty hunter, but in the big reveal at the end of the issue, at his full Transformers-era 30-foot height! I swear, I was grinning ear-to-ear when I got to that page. It was like... RIGHT. That's how big he's supposed to be! So in that sense, I kind of like it when he shows up that way in Marvel. I hope they stop shrinking him down, because his large size is a nice callback to his origins in Transformers. As for Death's Head returning to Transformers in some form... well, I have to say, I really think Lockdown is an attempt to do that (in a non-legally-compromising way). Others have denied it, but then... I call bullshit on that. They're just covering their asses so they don't get sued! For the same reason, I'm thinking we may not see a 3rd Party DH... 3P companies may be wary of prodding the sleeping Marvel/Disney dragon. Fortunately, in the Marvel Infinite line they recently released a Death's Head figure (sadly in his second costume). Ironically enough, it's a Hasbro toy. It's about a 4" figure, so I guess he'll look okay displayed with Deluxe-sized TFs. But, c'mon Hasbro...give us a nice 7" version in the Marvel Legends line! Original costume or bust!! zmog
I think he is kind of cool except for the fact that he kicks most Transformers ass with ease.. I like the Transformers being the most powerful, almost godlike beings around, to me it diminshes them when they get their asses handed to them by another mech, a monoformer no less!
It's a shame Marvel hasn't really done much with him outside of that comic series Nick Roche worked on.
I have to say that I mostly agree with SMOG......Mostly. I love the fact that Deaths Head can go toe to toe with some of the most powerful robots in the Universe. It gives him absolute credibility as a threat. You need to know that Transformers are not the most powerful beings in the Universe. You need to know that the Transformers can not just walk up to another planet and take it as their own, without resistance. I agree with your thoughts on his own comic. With the exception of the Fantastic 4 issue and the individual story "The Body In Question", this series was floored. At times too slapstick and had poor artwork. The exception being Deaths Heads co-creator and artist Geoff Senior. Whenever he took the helm, you felt like their was more love given in the work, more care and consideration taken. Like it mattered more to him. Deaths Head II? Had some good moments. But although he was still Deaths Head, I couldn't get over the fact that he beat the original so easily. Didn't make sense to me.
I was always wondering who he was ? Where he come from ? when I got the comic as a kid and read through the pages coming to The Legacy of Unicron with Unicron's head on the planet of junk. That image of Unicron was enough to have me remember him and present day look him up on the net, I can not remember at this minute all his details besides him being a bounty hunter but the comic which I still have after all these years is enough for me to constantly check for him on shelf in shop where he has still not appeared. If it were not for this comic I would not even care for I think he looks dumb, but me acquiring Art Storm UNICRON head is due to this comic, not the movie. Refine Star Emperor Unicron Head which did not release had quality's about it like the teeth I saw as a kid in comic.
This comic is definitely the reason I am a huge fan of UNICRON ever since that day it was in the news stand, as for Deaths Head he will always be a part of my child hood.
I am partial to a bit of deaths head. I did a custom of him from the thorbuster iron man toy back in the day. The killing of Shockwave point didn't bother me that much as he is far from immortal and due to the time traveling element of the UK run it meant that the future in which Shockwave was killed was hardly revisited that much after so in the present he was still alive and active so it's not like we as viewers missed seeing him.
They should bring Death's Head back. Personality, mannerisms, motivation, power... only he wouldn't be called or named Death's Head. Instead he would be Detritus. Detritus (G1) - Transformers Wiki
Of course we know this now. Back then, he was lets face it, murdered! At the time we didn't know that Transformers would disappear from our lives, let alone return and be around for over 30 years. When Shockwave died, he really did die!
