Yes but then again comparing G1 to i.e animated is not exactly fair either. G1 was made as 20 min toy commercials. Personalety and character development were almost never there except in a few few cases. If G1 hade been produced today you would most likely be voting diffrently as you expect more of a show today both cartoon and real ones.

as for Megatron himself. G1 is baisicly, get a plan, start doing it, get beaten and retret. You only ever get a glimps of Megatrons real ruthlessnes in the movie when he destorys Ironhide.

G1 Megs is for me the iconic one, the first one but as a villan he falls short due to reason above. I say animated getsmy vote, he has a plan, he is cunning, and he strikes fear in those he faces.

So yeah G1 and Animated.

Prime Megatron strikes me as an alright Megatron, he's reasonably scary and impressive when he needs to be and there's nothing wrong with him, but he faces such stiff competition it's no wonder he's in 4th.

More than a thug, he was quite the planner, yes!

I guess you have a point there. It did work as setup for Megatron becoming an Autobot in DC. It doesn't stop him from looking like a fool, but I guess that was the point.

This is why I'm glad I could pick multiple options. Right now I'm feeling he's the best, but I suspect that will change. Early on in IDW, Megatron could be an effective villain, but he wasn't very interesting, and while we did eventually get a good look into why he become a tyrant, and long before he stopped being a villain, it was during a period in which he did very little.

Beast Wars may be my favorite, though. But he's not really Megatron.

 

Beast Wars Megatron almost managed to erase both the Maximals and the Autobots from history, and also commited mass genoide on a planetary scale. No other Megatron has ever managed to do such a task. Not G1 Megs, not UT Megs, not even Aligned Megs has done such immense deeds.

The only reason the Maximals didn't get erased from history is that Primal had to take Optimus Prime's spark and put it in his own body to save his life. If that hadn't happened, Megatron would have won the Beast Wars.

Basically, Megatron only lost because Primal took Prime's spark in his body. Had that not happened, he'd have been erased from existance. And that's a lot more than any other Megatron can claim to be responsible for.

As for the idea that he's "not Megatron"....his name is Megatron, he's the opponent of an Optimus and he explicitly calls the original G1 Megatron his ancestor. Which means that he's technically in some capacity related to G1 Megatron. So he is a Megatron in both name and relation.

 

I'm not a Beast Wars fan, but I have to give to the T Rex. I hate how he says yesssss though.
