I'll only speak on his IDW portrayal, since that's the only one I've seen where he's actually gotten some character development.

I love bad guys, but for some reason, it really pisses me off when they're pretending to be one of the good guys. It isn't from a writing point of view that I hate it. It's from the way you're meant to hate a villain. I hate their ideals. Maybe it's because of their attitude. Instead of being mustache twitching, and enjoyable, they look down they're noses at everyone, and you want to punch them in the face.

Plus there's the whole Mary Sue thing. Kind of. Prowl spent almost all of pre-DC RID being the only one to get things done, and he killed, or had killed, countless Decepticons. Of course, it turned out not to be true, but the comic spent so long making us believe it was, I find it hard to just forget all about it.

Honestly, I can't wait for the day Prowl tries to stab the Constructicons in the back, and they hopefully turn around and put a laser bolt in him.

 

never read the idw books he was meh in g1 i actually cant think of an episode that focused on him usually hes just one of the guys firing poorly at the decepticons

 

I love Prowl. G1 was a bit underused, but he was still pretty cool. RID was alright. Animated was quite a good character, with all of his backstory, his dealing with the first time he got the Samurai armor, and then the overall awesomeness of his fighting style. As for IDW, I absolutely love IDW Prowl. He goes to show that no group is completely innocent, and Prowl embodies that perfectly. While I think having him become part of Devastator was an...odd choice, I look forward to seeing what they will do with them in Combiner Wars.

 

Is it wrong I actually want IDW Prowl to succeed almost all the time.

 

Not any more than me wanting him to just accept that despite it not being his will he's now part of a family, and they're Constructicons.

As the first Autobot I ever got he will always have a special place in my heart/collection (even if some of his Toys have been lacklustre) and I like that IDW have fleshed him out and used him extensively. However I'm not a fan of Prowlestator and would rather they didn't go all the way down this Blurred Lines/anything to get the job done road with him as that NEVER ends well.

G1 prowl, yes.

Animated prowl, no.

IDW prowl, no. The guys worse than the decepticons at times!

 

Same. Him, Arcee and The Construticons make an awesome team or family in this case.  

 

But isn't this what makes him interesting?

I am tired of this clear distinction between good and evil in film and TV. It isn't this black and white in the real world!

Prowl fights for a good cause, but is willing to do some bad things to get the job done. This mirrors the real world.

 

IDW wise... I don't really like him. He's a prick.

 

IDW Prowl is interesting, but he's hard to follow sometimes. Plans within plans within plans makes me kinda less invested when reading his stuff because a few pages or issues later he's likely to pull out a new stage of his plan that is opposite to what we've been following from him so far.

 

I picked love him, but I'm a tad bit indifferent now. He's been great in everything other than RID since DooP, and unfortunately RID is where he shows up the most. Barber likes to play with Prowl's "dark side" and make him come off as evil as possible. Seeing him like he is under Roberts pen depicts him as someone who does his job because it's necessary-- Barber makes it look like he enjoys what he does, and that just doesn't add up with how he's been depicted so far. Either way he's a total bastard and I love it.

On the other hand there's always Animated Prowl, who - despite a rushed character arc in the last season - was a pretty decent character.

 

Always liked him, he's a character that should get more attention, especially in the movies

 

Perhaps, but IDW Prowl seems to make everyone's lives miserable. What do the Constructicons see in this guy?

 

Never really cared for Prowl, and ever since movie Barricade arrived on the scene Prowl has been my number two Cop Car Bot. However, I've never disliked him, and his table-flipping in the IDW books is an amusing running gag.

 

Prowl was my first Transformer so yeah I've got a soft spot for him. I'm not a big fan of his IDW incarnation but it could be argued that he was a forgettable nobody until they turned him into an asshole.

 

Yeah Barber Prowl isn't as great as Roberts Prowl.

It's a shame Roberts isn't doing RID as well or had Prowl in MTMTE...but Prowl on the Lost Light is the like one thing that will never happen which is a pity.

 

Before IDW, he was just another generic Season 1 Autobot Car. Now he's my second favorite Autobot, it's amazing what a little personality can do for a character.
