This. I always loved the concept of Prime as a big fire truck. It's one of the reasons Cybertron is my favorite of the Primes, at least design wise.
Though, maybe that's just because I grew up on RID-Cybertron. I had some G1 on VHS though!

In terms of design we did get this, which is (sorta) surprisingly accurate to the cartoon...



But I know what you mean. Prime always looked sorta incomplete sitting in vehicle mode with the others because of that.

 

That's fucking heartbreaking.

 

To me, this alone should be reason enough for IDW to do a follow-up comic.

 

I rather have something original for the character. Like a small civilian plane, especially if Megatron has a flying alt mode.

 

After reading that 500-page Movieverse Trilogy analysis (well most of it), I can't help but think a 'supreme leader' Optimus should not have a civilian alt. A bit too ironic that the military leader disguising himself as a blue collar everyman isn't the Decepticon.

 

The firetruck has a heroic quality to it, but the normal truck gives him a sort of "Blue collar" quality. He's not regal, or putting on airs, and he's not specifically built for combat, or leadership, or even rescue missions; he's been drafted into these roles. I also like it when he has a Powermaster Mode or Weapons Trailer, though, both because it's badass, and because I like the visual symbology of him literally hauling around the burden of the life he's been dragged into.

I still love truck with a trailer that turns into armour. It's the most fun, and I like the idea that usually comes with it, that Optimus needs upgrades to be on the same level as Megatron. It's one of the things I truly love about the Unicron "Trilogy".

 

Where's the option for munkey?

I really like just the plain truck, I always felt it embodied Prime in kind of a "speak softly and carry a big stick" kind of way. Like, a trucks not super crazy, but it can still kick some ass and take names when it needs to.

 

I like both of these posts a lot, despite my pro-fire truck stance. Semi trucks conjure up that old-timey blue collar "Any Which Way You Can" kind of "welp, time to man up and go to work" vibe, like he isn't built for combat but he's gonna shut up, buckle down, and do the right thing because it needs doin'. Again, contextual - I wouldn't want TFA Prime as a semi, but G1 Prime wouldn't have the same impact as a fire truck.

And I guess on the subject of the movie-verse, I think Movie Prime could have easily had Sentinel Prime's alt-mode. Sure, it's a fire truck, but it's a big scary firetruck clearly intended for heavy utility.

Yeah. And they could toss some blue on there, because those aren't real fire truck colors anyway (and while they were at it, they could lose Sentinel's scary skull face torso and use his design with an Optimus head, because Sentinel is some damn fine mecha design).

You can't argue the OP's intent, even if he accidentally left off one word in the poll. If he meant to do it, he would have left it off the thread title too, and he would have included the option for monkey on the poll. Obviously.

The guy who started the thread and poll also said "Prime" in the first post of this thread. So what do you honestly think he meant? Honestly.

I did not know about this. And finding out about it just hurt my soul, that i never came to be.

Powermaster prime was the best ever optimus prime. An update of that design would be pure love for me.
