My son is 7 and has been into Transformers since he was 4. He likes G1 a lot better than the movies or Prime. He liked Animated though. We are both really looking forward to Titan Devastator this Fall.

My little girl has a bit of a thing for the '86 movie...

Wakes up in the morning - "Can I watch Transformers?"
Goes for a long car trip - "Can I watch Transformers on your phone?" (I bought the movie on iTunes.)
Gets bored in the afternoon...you get the picture.

My nephew loves it as well, yet neither of them can have their attention captured by the latest cartoons?

Both of them love the scene where the Dinobots try and take on Devastator - daughter cheers when Slag gets a hit in...

That would be fantastic! Haha. It's where it all started, and as I've said before, the original series still has some real magic in it. :)

I remember being a kid and I'd get the empty Christmas wrapping paper tube and putting in on my arm. I'd run around pretending that I was Megatron shooting Optimus in the face and bitch-slapping Starscream.

Awesome topic! Just want to chime in on the following:

Yeah, that was totally awesome about the G1 cartoon (and in slightly different way equally awesome about the Marvel comics).
I don't have any kids, nor does my own dad like Transformers :p  but that part is/was always truly great, and I really feel they should have used this angle in the Bay movies, rather than going with a boring love story / awkard parents.

I'm happy the new RID cartoon DOES seem to go with a slightly more father-and-kid adventure, Rescue Bots did it with the full family approach, and Animated did it a little bit as well...I'd love for a movie version of TF finally take this approach someday.

I did, but because I didn't have the huge rolls, those tiny Christmas wrapping rolls were more like Starscream's null rays. I once added a toilet paper roll to the end of it after making it pointy.

That one episode in G1, where the tfers end up in some giant alien kid's room (titled: Child's Play) ...that alien kid freaked the heebie-jeebies outta me when I was little.

Child's Play! Great episode ;)  I think it was his big, empty yellow eyes that were unsettling.

That is so cute! My kid tries to act like my cartoons are automatically sucky cuz they aren't her cartoons, and yet she sits down and enjoys cartoon from G1 TF to Super Mario Bros. Super Show to The Wuzzles and Tom and Jerry

So my two year old daughter was sitting with me watching TF:TM, and calling out pretty much every alt mode and/or color. I think she was a little bothered by Lithone's destruction, but that had more to do with the little baby robots running around.

This is one of the joys of having kids... with something like Transformers we get to relive our childhood with them and discover the newer stuff together.

My almost 8 year old son is a Transformers addict and has been since the age of 5. He LOVES G1 - so much so that guess what he went to school as for book week?

    Oh yeah!
Given the choice my son will watch G1 all the time, with the occasional dose of Transformers Prime and a sprinkling of the movies (he dislikes all the human bits in the movies). He didn't like animated very much (and I can't say I blame him) but he quite likes Beast Wars although he prefers trucks and planes over animals.

Needless to say it drives my husband nuts... and probably doesn't help that my 10 year old daughter is also obsessed with Transformers too!

    I have a nephew that's a huge TF fan.

G1 through the eyes of a 8-10 year old, seems to really be magical. The stories are great, and the scenes can flow better with a young imagination with a flair for the technical. I think as adults we have a jaded analytical cynicism that's just not there in kids. (and its wonderful!) As a result G1 is pure adventure - there is no slapstick or melodrama that is so prevalent in today's cartoons.

Thank you. That's why G1 is still the measuring stick for most series to be compared by.

Plus it's the only series with so many characters that will allow a child to be attached to, even if they were in 5% of the episodes, and/or had only 1 ep where they were the main protagonist.

Subjectively as an adult, I can honestly say Sideswipe and Skywarp didn't do much or say much, but hot damn, they are fan favorites because of our childhood imagination and fan fictions...moreso if your parent(s)' got you that toy for Christmas or birthday. A Transformer that can become a red lambo? Hot! A jet that can teleport? I wish I can do that!
