Can anyone think of any way this often forgotten factor could work in a piece of transformers fiction? The only thing I could think of humans using sniffer dogs to make sure there vehicle wasn't a transformer as a precaution or maybe without their knowledge we could detect them this way. Anyone got any other ideas beyond detection?

 

Someone hijacks a Decepticon, remarks it smelling weird, and then gets attacked by the car,

 

Like Motor oil and chemicals most likely. growing up in a garage, i kinda enjoy the smell.

 

How about a blind human interacting with transformers.

 

According to his bio, G1 Blot stinks a lot.
I figure that his joints often secrete used oil and lubrificant and both have also awful quality for his problems.

For the other Tf's ,hot oil and lubrificant of very good quality, and people that love these smells could resist or even appreciate ,at least for a while  .

 

How long is a while?

 

Well it depends from the smell of the Tf's(if it's pure Earth lubrificant/oil or mixed up with "alien "scent that could help or worsen a lot the thing ) and the guy's tastes .

In my opinion resistance in a closed space as a garage is very short,also for people who love these smells,especially if the Tf's is very big as an Autobot and emits A LOT of smell.I think that within very few minutes , if garage door is closed,then you absolutely have to open it.
Anyway these are just joking theories,you aren't forced to take seriously   .

Interesting question, I'd guess they'd smell like energon. I'm not sure why but I've just always figured that energon would have a sweet scent to it, kind of like coolant/antifreeze. If your dog try's to lick the car instead of lifting its leg to the tire, it might be a transformer. lol

The Japanese like various food-based transforming toys so I'd like to bring back my 'smelling of foods' thing and have robots that transform into to food and also smell of said food item.

This, and coolants, lubricants (grow up). Hot machinery (last warning) and whatever they've been doing (...). I think Blot and Landfill had some stench issues, maybe the Horrorcons too. One of the Seacons was known for being particularly smelly, which is some serious kind of smelly, considering where they hang out.
Anyone who's been to college knows what Beachcomber smells like.

 

I think they would probably smell like an auto shop or bus tunnel.

Robots in Disguise has just referenced the way Transformers smell as jokes several times now. Apparently Bumblebee has a land smell to Hammerstrike, and Underbite smells bad to Grimlock.

 

Well, I can tell you that my Takara Legends Whirl just smells like foulness unleashed from hell... no problems with Rattrap or Roadbuster, his wave mates, but his stink was unbearable.
I found a thread at Seibertron mentioning this too.

 

What does he... smell like? Is it an organic type smell or is it something reminiscent of chemicals?
