Yeah, in my opinion, the funnies these days have really just become more like internet memes, where they're all basically differently scripted versions of the exact same jokes and focus more on jokes for short term laugh than the long term build up to a much stronger joke. I forget where I heard this, but when telling a story, the most important part in keeping readers paying attention is making them ask "what happened/happens next?"

With short term jokes that have become the norm here, there is no investment. It's a gimmick, something cute that seems like worth doing but, personally, I don't see as being ultimately worth the time and effort just for a quick laugh that going to Icanhazcheeseburger would do just as well as.

Remember Out of the Dead Land? That's one of my favorite comics here mainly because it wasnt funny. It was serious. It had action and drama. I personally don't read most comics because they're humorous. I want more serious ones.

You've got the kernel of a dramatic plot already if you wanted to go that direction - you've sold most of them; what kind of effect would that have on the survivors? Did they know what happened to their friends and loved ones and were powerless to help, or did their friends and loved ones just disappear one day? Or did they disappear one by one, leading to increasing paranoia in the others still remaining? If you do the 'owner in comic' bit, would they know you did it, and what effect would that have on their relationships with YOU? Would they blame you, or eachother, or themselves for what happened and why? Would they go looking for them/attempt a rescue? Would some of them go crazy? Would some of them get philosophical? Would some of them descend into the dark depths of depression?

Or would it become a slapstick comedy? ;)

It could have the remaining collection (it would help if I knew what was left) actually having some sort of peace treaty, or have some sort of common threat (like if there is a new character who wants to try to complete the job)
