So let me get this straight, Burnout is on a mission to rescue Rin from the clutches of an unreality while Tsugaru is trying to find Sideswipe.

What I get for not reading updates, but a nice idea with the hand drawn characters.

There's a lot of stuff going on, and it's not always clear where everything falls chronologically, because so much of it is concurrent, but i'll take my best shot at explaining.

The 'Present' - Ultimate Optimus is facing down the White Serpent, who has been torturing and taunting him, trying to push him over the edge of despair so he can make his broken husk a servant. In his trailer, Rin and the kids are hiding, in the dark. A Serpent-controlled Tsugaru is stalking them, though currently she's incapacitated due to the Serpent 'educating' her.

Meanwhile, the survivors of the Serpent's attack have eluded his minions, and are planning a rescue of Ult Op and the others. Oddly enough, those who HAVEN'T survived are ALSO planning a rescue, as it seems the 'game' they all exist in has some pretty flexible respawn conditions.

Burnout is currently in an FTL starship, outracing a chronal wave set in motion by someone going back in an attempt to make-it-didn't-happen. Burnout doesn't accept that this will make everything 'okay' (See the whole Chrono Cross viewpoint of what happens to terminated timelines) and is making one last ditch effort to help. By mainlining a Force Chip, he's linked with the local Ultra Magnus to become Omega Prime, and using that link has entered the Linkage, and from there access the 'Game', ending up with all the 'dead' heroes preparing to respawn.

The 'Flashback' - Right now the Serpent is telling Ultimate Optimus how he broke Tsugaru. What we are reading and seeing right now is the last piece of Tsugaru's story, which links where we saw her last (Lost in a 'dream' searching for Sideswipe) and where we are now.
