That's alright, I assumed that I was only responsible for Best Humorous Character and Best Funniest Moment. Anyways, got the thread up to remind people that nominations are open for Best Serious Character. And so far, I have 2 nominations for Best Humorous Character; hopefully I'll get more before nominations close on the 26th.
Hey, guys. I just wanted to take a second to say "Thanks!" to those of you working on the Funnies Awards again this year. One of the things I love about this little subforum is how it supports its contributors. I wish I could help out this year, but I've been so busy with work, I'd hate to say I could help and then have to back out. Hell, I haven't had time this year to even work on my OWN comic! Again, thanks, and I hope I have time to drop by for the voting.
Phew... took me most of the morning, but I got the poll threads up for both Best Serious Character and Best Humorous Character.
Aw, shucks. Yeah, it was quite a lot of work -- making sure I got the polls set up correctly, as well as copying/pasting all the IMG tags from the PMs. But hey, it felt good volunteering to help out.
You can always count on T+C to lend a helping hand and volunteer Don't overdo it though, you need to share the weight with others, or force other ppl to participate!! Kinda reminds me of the comic review thread you guys made a while back when I was alive
D'aaaw, thanks T_C. And no worries, I won't overdo it. Ah, the comic review thread... I forgot who exactly started that thread, not quite sure if he's still around or not. I think when he stopped helping out doing the reviews, I ended up quitting doing reviews since there were so many comics people wanted to get reviewed and I just did not have a lot of time.
Dang it, I haven't gotten any nominations in for Best Funniest Moment yet, and nominations end Thursday, February 9th. I started the thread reminding people about it, too. Also, how come there's no thread reminding people that nominations for Best Monologue are also open at this time?
Looks like I'm going to end up having to do a tie-breaker poll for Best Funniest Moment, all because two board members decided to post comics in the poll thread bribing everyone to vote for their comics. For next year's Funnies Awards, we should post a rule -- no one is to post these "vote-grabbing" comics in the poll threads. It's just not right to be bribing people to vote for them and make them win, when we're doing the Funnies Awards for fun and everyone should have the freedom to vote for whoever they feel deserves an award.
If you honestly believe having Ratchet threaten to kill a pony convinced people to vote for my comic...well, you have more confidence in my ability to bribe people then I do. I personally would have been happy sharing the title with Karhukjnsi and Pol if all three of us had tied. Sorry if I sound defensive, but I don't like it being insinuated that Karhuknsi, Pol or myself did not deserve every single vote the three of us got, especially in the tie breaker post itself. It makes it sound as if we cheated, which I take GREAT offense too. Again, sorry if I sound mean or defensive. I understand you put alot of work into this Trans-Crazy and I thank you for it...however, I don't understand why you are taking it so personal. There was a tie...big deal. Ties happen. Again, I would be happy to share the title with the others, if that had been your decision.
"Bribing" is too strong a word for what occurred. "Influencing" however, is not: what occurred was a simple form of propaganda. I support T+C's suggestion about next year's awards in this regard. On an note related to next year's run, perhaps all submissions should be capped to 5 panels. In some years, a person might only get 3 panels nominated, while others will get 10+ nominated, for the same award. Keeping the number of panels consistent across all entries would level the playing field a bit.
I'm not saying that neither Mr Chaos, Karhukjnsi or Pol did not deserve to win Best Funniest Moment. What I'm saying is that I don't think it's any fun or in good taste to be posting comics where the characters are all "Vote for us" in the actual poll threads, that I feel it's more or less bribing. Which is why I suggested that there needs to be a rule against that sort of thing. If you want people to vote for you, that's fine... but in the future, any comics where the characters are asking people to vote for their comic should only be posted in your comic thread. That's all I'm trying to say. EDIT: And I'm just going to say I'm sorry. I really haven't had a good week, my mood has been completely out of whack and despite how I tried not to take things out on others, there were quite the few slip-ups here and there. So... I'm sorry if my posts relating to the Funnies Awards came across as being harsh, rude, etc. And since I'm done with my part in helping out with the Funnies Awards, I'll just... let the others do their work now.
And, of course, we are grateful for all the work you have done, and thank you for all the effort you put into it. We are all grateful for the hard work you put into this...that all the judges have. But I do hope you, and everyone else, sees why I am upset by the general tone these awards have suddenly taken, and why I am so offended (I will not speak for the others), especially since there are still people commenting about how they hoping the voting will be 'fair'. I do accept your apology. I disagree with your opinions on the 'bribing' and I am still very upset with others that continue to deride myself and others, but I do accept your apology, Trans-Crazy.
Sorry if I ruined your fun, that I offended you and derided you in any way. Guess I just care way too than I should about things being both fun and fair for the Funnies Awards, and perhaps I shouldn't have volunteered to help out with this. Seemed like things were fine until I go and royally screwed things up while running the Best Funniest Moment category. Next year, I'm just not going to bother volunteering to help out. I'll just let others step in to help run this thing, they'll handle things way better than I can. I just have the bad tendency to go and screw things up without meaning to.
I don't think you ruined anything, and Lord knows I don't want you thinking you shouldn't be volunteering for anything. And as I said, I accept your apology...it is others (who will remain nameless) who I have issues with, not you. And if Ironhide decides to make your suggestion a rule for the rest of the awards, I will happily follow it. So please, do not feel bad and do not get down on yourself. I am quick to anger but quicker to forgive. And hey, if you need some cheering up, send me a PM...I'll let you in on something I have brewing that will really make your day and forget all about this. trust me on this...I got something cooking that is going to blow everyone's mind.
I don't think it's bribing either, but it is a big influence. However, I don't blame the tie on the comics, considering there was a three way tie before even the second comic was posted. They might have both ended up tying, but I don't think the newest comics played a part in it. Heck, I didn't even read the second one (it's too long, sorry, man!). I agree with the panel limit for next years though, some of those posts get awfully long and don't even have to do with the awards category. And Trans+Crazy, please don't stop helping out around here, you're one of the only ones to know how to post the polls right! You're a great help and you do a lot for the people here. Besides, I'm too lazy to take your spot!
Why not post a few panels, & include a link back to the comic/ update they're from. That way, if there's a context issue that isn't carried over in the panels nominated, it's easy to find the full original.
