Just caught up. Loved the Christmas special. I actually thought that Starscream had changed his ways there, so I had to chuckle when I realized that his way of not getting killed by megs in the future was to try and kill megs now.
Cthulhu! And so tiny as well. And your face. I guess it isn't everyday that an Elderitch Abomination comes up to you and asks for help.
Wow, page 7, I didn't realize I'd left this thread inactive so long . You might remember me making comments about wanting to make a comic featuring spaceships a little while back. I even posted some experiments of ships GIMPed onto spacey backgrounds. Well, what follows is the next step in the process. The comic this will be a part of - and the following really isn't essential to the plot - has no title yet. The first story arc will be called Fugitives, so this is Fugitives #0. --- Ok, so that actually tells you very little about the story to come. Here's a bit more information... Similar to Transformers Animated the Autobots are the main power in the galaxy. They control the Spacebridge Network, so they control the galaxy. There have been three (in my most recent write up, at least...) Great Wars to get to this point. The Decepticons have been pushed to the outer fringes of the galaxy. There is a neutral "buffer" zone between Autobot and Decepticon space occupied by those unalligned. The neutral zone is a haven for criminals such as Swindle but is also home to simple traders like Wreck-Gar. Using Animated as inspiration, I will also be exclusively using Animated figures (with the possible exception of Swindle's space station). However, whether their personalities much their Animated counterpart or are based on some other version found within the many different Transformers continuities will remain to be seen for each individual character. The Animated toyline also provided me with the ideal way to populate my world beyond the main characters. Anytime you see an Activators figure they will be considered a generic character. Like real TV series extras they'll pop up again and again in whatever minor roles I need filled. Hopefully this won't be too distracting or confusing. I will be using mostly Star Wars miniatures for the ships in the comic. I have tried my best to assemble fleets with similar looks and colouring - Autobot ships will have red markings and are for the most part triangular, Decepticons will have blue markings - to help the reader tell the fleets apart. I am hoping to make space combat one of the main forms of action in the stories I tell. Mostly, it's because space combat is what I love about things like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. I'm still undecided as to whether I should build sets out of DVDs and whatever else I have around the house and let your imaginations and the story fill in the details - like Out of the Dead Land - or actually create sets like Blurry Robot Theatre. Creating backgrounds and set peices usable for figures from Scout to Leader class may prove to be more trouble than it's worth but on the other hand I could let you all see this world how I personally imagine it. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Questions, comments and criticisms always welcome. I am really wanting to take my story telling and comic make another step closer to the fantastic works seen about this forum. I'm very sorry for leaving you all an essay to read...
Heeeeeey! Welcome back! This is looking awesome, already! Love that space stuff! Waspinator lends the place a nice alien-bugworld atmosphere, too...he's acting the part. The description has really got me curious to see where this goes! Sounds great. If you need any help with sets, feel free to ask! They actually can make things easier, in many ways. While most of mine are populated by small figures, they've worked fine for larger ones, including Supreme Starscream in the Christmas arc, although I admit he was pushing the limits a bit.
Ooooh. New comic featuring space stuff. So does that mean this Activators Bee is really just a generic?
First off, great start to the new comic. I really like the idea of focusing on the space battle sequences. We don't have many of those in the funnies here, or in TF fiction in general, so kudos on exploring something new. On this subject, I do whatever you feel you honestly have the time for. The OOTDL approach to scenery comes from the fact that I honestly don't have the time or space to build alternator scale sets, certainly not to create the kind of wonderful sets seen in BRT. If you think you have the time and resources to create sets I'd say go for it, because it adds a lot to the visual impact of the strip. But if you think you'd struggle to find the time, then personally I'd rather a fun story with DVD cases for walls that updated twice a week than a visually stunning story with proper sets that updated five times a year then vanished as it was too much effort to create. End of the day, if you think you've got the time and resources to build sets, and it's something that you'll enjoy doing, I'd say go for it.
Thanks . Waspy is suitably creepy. But then again I'd probably try to include Waspinator in anything . While I am looking forward to getting to use and develop characters I haven't really played with in the past (like Oil Slick, he's one fun figure IMO) I couldn't help but use Waspinator as a main character again. Mostly I was planning on making cardboard back drops. I was working with the assumption that both the Autobots and the Decepticons would reuse the same sort of designs across all of their ships/installations so I could just keep recycling the walls. One arrangement might be a corridor, move the walls about and then have an office. In the same way a computer console could have the same shape if used in the medbay or on the bridge. I guess it's more about finding the time to buy the card and make the sets than anything. That's right, this Bee is a generic. For the Autobots - Optimus Prime mold will be used for generic Autobot officers/leaders, Bumblebee mold as troops, and Ratchet as medics. For the Decepticons - Soundwave mold as ground officer, Lockdown mold as ground soldiers, Megatron mold as airborne officer and Starscream mold as airborne soldiers. Once this gets going I think the use of generics will be most noticable on the Decepticon side. While I plan to keep many of the Autobot main characters grouped together - i.e. the Elite Guard - the main Decepticons will each be in command of their own vessels. Thanks . Cheers . Glad you think so . It's just me wanting to play with something I enjoy. Very glad others are eager to share the experience though . I wonder how much of a headache planning battles in 3 dimensions will end up being . As I said above once I made the sets I had planned to reuse the same ones a lot. It's just making them that will be the time consuming part initially. Still, I guess I could start with the DVDs, etc for now and transition into using the proper sets as they're made.
If the sets will change little once they're constructed, it might be worth building them first before continuing with the comic. That way the whole story will have a uniform look. Just a thought.
