Hi All, I picked up this guy yesterday and I believe that if this is to be the last of the movie Dinobots then they have exited on a high. In Dino mode I believe Snarl may be the best looking of the bunch. His weapon comes in two parts and forms an axe-like weapon. One part becomes the spiky tail and the other an additional back fin. Here is a brief comparison with the other exceptional Dinobot - Scorn. Transforming him to Robot is satisfying without being complex but unlike many of the other Dinobots he doesn't have an obvious Knight look. The back fins can be split open (official transformation) but you can also leave them joined for a G1 nod. His isn't without some minor issues that may put some people off. His front forarms are hollow and were likely intended to hold the robot hands but this isn't the case. So in dino mode his hands are showing behind the dino feet. The robot has a wrist swivel but the hands are at an angle so he looks like he is permanently making a 'wanker' sign. His weapon isn't great but the way it is stored in Dino mode is. These issues overshadow what works and imo there is some poetry to starting with Scorn and ending with Snarl. They are two very strong offerings. He is also one of the taller robot deluxe Dinobots, a similar height to Scorn. So to wrap up here I like him, I recommend him and I hope you enjoy him if you decide to add Snarl to you collection. Thanks for reading.
I like the Dino mode. I haven't gotten any of these movie toys, but is I do, it will be snarl and scorn.
The colors really put me off trying to pursue this guy.... And his proportions in Dino form are just so... weird. He has a tiny head, and he's got a round body which makes for a pretty 'fat' (for lack of better term) Dino... Also doesn't help it's so small compared to most other dinobots. That look would've probably worked best on a Voyager. Also would've been better so we have a more reasonable size difference between Leader Grimlock and the deluxe Dinobots. With just Slog, it just looks weird. If it were 1 Leader, 2 Voyagers, and 4 Deluxes, it'd be a perfect Army.
WTF were they thinking when they designed this guy's forearms? Give me gorilla arms any day of the week over what this poor guy ended up with. Other than that though he looks great!
Okay, well, I just don't dig it. It may be accurate, but it doesn't click with me. Especially when this guy has such a tiny head compared to the others. If he were bigger (which YES, I REALIZE, would make him out of scale with the other Dinos), then it'd fit a bit better.
Yeah, I am not a big fan either. I realize that G1 Dinobots are not real life representation of Dinobots, but I just like their style. I do have Takara's Scorn though and he is very neat. Can't wait to receive their Swoop as well.
I saw JP in the title and was expecting you-know-what I am genuinely impressed and excited. The arms, of course are probably the only major thing I dislike about it, but everything else looks marvelous. I dig the green, I dig the lizardly robot head sculpt, and I love the clear plates. There used to be some theory that Stegosaurus used its plates for thermoregulation and heat absorption from the sun. The clear plates give off some "energy overload" vibe from Snarl.
For those who don't like the hands and wish he had so-called gorilla arms...you can turn his hands at the wrist and give him gorilla arms like the others, and he looks fine that way. So you have your choice. Also, you can take the blade and turn it upside down and peg it upwards into the axe, it has a slot to hold it better that way.
How do you attach the weapon to the spine? I'm having a hard time figuring it out on my SDCC version...
Yeah, there're multiple theories regarding the matter. Either it was to cool their system with the blood flowing though the plates, and the wind cooling it off, or, the more likely, the sun would heat up the blood in the plates and circulate it. Either way, it's pretty cool stuff :3
I can't stop seeing the black fake Dino head in his leg. Why would you put that there and then not paint it the same as the real one?
