They really do look nice. But I'm sorry....my value ticker is kicking in, and these are way too overpriced for what you get.

    amazing base

    the dinos id rank are

    grim > slag > swoop/snarl
the gorilla arms on those two just ruin the figures completely. snarl's hands are worthless, i will have to make a new attachment point completely for him.

Even though Triceratops and slag were my favorite dinos as a kid and snarl and stegosaurus being my least favorite. I have found a role reversal for these guys. Snarl looks awesom in both g1 and his lime green.... i have seen slug numerous times in stores, but id rather have scorn, slash and snarl (already have strafe) before getting him.

I just got mine today, and I felt the need to post my personal, extensive pictorial reality check.

There is not much to say about the outer box that has not already been said. Mine arrived undamaged in transit... keep that in mind as I continue.

Adult collectible. Due to the frailty of this set I would have to agree.

This is what I found when I attempted to open the tray. The long cardboard rectangular bar came out while I pulled it out, and it wasn't easy as a result. The downward lip of the cardboard sheet on top hung down on the outside of the tray. Just pulling out this drawer may have caused some damage.

So, I looked inside the drawer and found some warping hanging down into the open space. This worried me.

The Dinobots in their pristine form.

Now for what many consider the main event... Opening The Ark. It is worth noting a few things here: First, I've heard of some people completely destroying this box while they take out the Dinobots, and admittedly, there are no instructions for opening this playset and I nearly destroyed it myself. Here is what I discovered:

    See the Velcro?
Now flip it, and turn it 90 degrees.

Take that flap, and pin it to the other side of the box with more Velcro.

As you can see, it is well drawn, but poorly assembled.

Although there was no outward damage to the box during transit, the second story where Teletran 1 is nonetheless warped and badly sloping. Although that railing could have been deliberately made curved to give this set some meat.

Furthermore, you can rest assured that this ledge can support your figures. This is why.
As you can see in this photo, the support under the medical gurney has also become disconnected due to poor assembly. Fortunately all of this can be fixed with rubber cement.

It is worth considering that this set is only useful for displaying The Ark after it has already crashed. If you want to display your figures while The Ark is still in space, you need IGear. Also, that sky-spy is painted on the wall, so you won't be able to play with it.

Grimlock. when I first looked at this figure in Dino mode, I thought: Oh crap. That tail. It's just the two legs pinned together. So it's not much better than the Voyager Generation's Grimlock in that regard, and both look awful. But in this case, the weapon attaches to the feet, creating a better look to the tail... although it is a bit long. Also, it is impossible to attach the tail extension without damaging the chrome.

And interesting thing to note about strafe/swoop is that the actual toys' tails are extremely bent to the left side, either intentionally or due to the way it is packaged. But the instructions show them as straight. He also has a very basic transformation worthy of only a G1 figure.

In my opinion, Slag is the best of the lot. The only QC issues I found with him is the looseness of the two swords when he holds them in the sides of his body in Dino mode. Why he does so, I don't know.

Finally, the one everyone is talking about, Snarl. Apart from the hands, it is actually a very cool design in appearance. But the Hands!
Close up on the upward tilt of the hands. That is not poseable, apart from rotation.
    Dino Mode.
Now the heel on the Dino mode's rear feet look OK from a distance. But here's a close up...

Well, there's my take. I hope my honesty and bluntness is appreciated. I can get away with it, because in spite of everything, I have no intentions of parting with this set.

It's almost guaranteed we'll get the dinobots in G1 colours for regular retail. There's no way Hasbro wouldn't do it. Just wait it out, it'll come out in Platinum Edition or something like that.

Nothing's guaranteed, especially witn this line. If there are ever repaints more reminiscent of G1, I highly doubt they'll be this slavish. The Platinum set is probably as close as it'll get in terms of metallics and whatnot. Besides, if they did a full set at retail, why would anyone pay for the SDCC box, the platinum set or even the Takara exclusives?

so for those of you who want to fix his hands
you will need putty, a ball joint + socket that can go 90 degrees, and paint. ROTF legends grindor works really well.
waiting on putty atm, will post pics when its done

    Just opened mine after work.
    WOW.
The figures are honestly beautiful. Even though I'm not a fan of slavish G1 rehashes, the colors and chrome on these guys is nothing short of brilliant!
My ONLY dislike is the fake head on Snarl. It really isn't necessary, and a shaped panel would have been so much more effective.

My Ark had a few disconnects, but nothing major. I think a few may be universal, and they're easily worked around.

    All in all, I'm satisfied.
Now just to wait for Slog from Amazon...

Posted this under the TOY FORUM; but I thought I'd put it here too:

    --------------------------------------------

lol....well, this is for those that own the SDCC Dinobot set. (pssst, it's awesome)

I noticed that over the last week or so it began to droop and sag ever so slightly....this made me sad.

I've only placed Legends sized figures on the upper tier, yet this still happened.

Well upon closer inspection I noticed there are about 3 or 4 connecting parts of the box that already lost their factory "stick"; which is causing this droop.

Luckily, a few dabs of Crazy Glue in these spots, and the set is crazy sturdy and strong now; and upright.

    SPOTS TO GLUE:

*along this wall on the right hand side*

*as much as you can reach on this ledge too....glue it to the strip underneath it*

*along this wall, and under the ramp strip too, on the left hand side*

LOCK solid play set now, with zero droop. :)

Perhaps not, but we did eventually get what was essentially a retail release of the SDCC FOC Bruticus, with a shiny Grimlock to boot, so who knows?

They should have looked like this in the first place. Not the orange, purple, blue and green versions we are getting at retail.
