I got the Grimlock from this set today. My first experience with the FOC mold, and it definitely has its strengths and weaknesses.

The robot mode is really nice. All the colours really pop on it. While it doesn't the glowy high-lights that the original mold had, or the 'gold' leg detailing, there are some nice paint apps elsewhere, such as the red waist, black thighs, forearms, and hands, the spots of colour on his shins. Not to mention the gold plastic looks really nice, and feels spaced out properly. The Platinum version of the mold had gold plastic on the neck of the dinosaur and torso of the robot, with the standard yellow paint on the tail and dinosaur claws. This version has gold plastic everywhere there should be gold plastic, and looks fantastic

I like the robot mode of this figure. It's tall, looks good, and bulky. It has a good weight to it. The thing screams of powerful. The joints are all nice and tight, but not too tight either. However the knees are a bit fiddly due to the way they're designed for transformation, and despite being on a ball joint, you don't get much range of motion out of his head due to the plastic surrounding it, which is a shame. The sword is nice, but the shield is a bit bland compared to the standard release, and even then it's too small. Might suit another figure, but not this one

Tyrannosaur mode is definitely the weakest aspect of this figure. I can understand why, given that High Moon's Grimlock model cheats a lot during transformation, especially where the tail is concerned. It kind of forms out of nothing in the game, or just flies out from his torso at the end of transformation. It looks okay, but the tail is just a bit too thick and the overall dinosaur mode too small on this figure. Still, it's not horrible. The arms tend to pop off a lot though

While not mind-blowing, this is a pretty fun figure, and I'd highly recommend this deco over the standard release or the platinum versions. If you don't have Masterpiece Grimlock and can't see yourself being able to get it in the foreseeable future, then I think this is definitely the best Grimlock for your Classics collection, or even your FOC/WFC collection

Did you disassemble the figure before applying or did you keep it in one piece?

Picked up a set yesterday. Optimus is still in the box. My first experience with the FOC Grimlock mold. I would have to agree with you guys that this version of FOC Grimlock would fit perfectly in the classics shelf. My only gripe is that he's of the FOC design -- very very hollow and light.

FWIW, if you use the Cartwheel coupon app from Target, you can get 30% off on this set until 7/26. On top of the 5% Target Redcard discount. And the set is on sale for 24.99 this week too.

I sold both of my silver knight optimus prime figures on ebay! YEAH!
The grimlock in one set that i bought had a fucked up autobot sigil ....it looked like the top half of the head was cleaved off.
so i got a 2nd set and that grimlock was fine with the autobot sigil.

I might paint the other one as a custom down the road....

both grimlocks had tight joints and excellent paint apps....

I picked up this set yesterday. Very pleased. I like/liked FOC Grimlock a lot and adding this version to the collection is very pleasing.

I have not had this mold (deluxe DOTM?) of Prime, and liked the transition. Some of the tabs were tight -- I guess because the chrome added thickness the mold didn't originally compensate for. The overall result--chrome truck with flames :)  -- was nice. The price was great in this day of $15 deluxes and $25 voyagers too.

I picked this up in Canada, where it's going for $16.99, so a Voyager and Deluxe is cheaper than a single Deluxe, so I really couldn't say no, even if I'm a little unsure of this all-chrome Prime.

Got these guys last "Knight" from my older brother as a day late christmas present, Holy cow are these guys shiny and neat, I love the use of chrome used, What can I say about the molds that hasn't been done to death? I switched Grimlock's sword with FOC Grimlock's sword they both can have better swords for them.

I have this set but have not opened it yet. Thinking of putting some kind of a sealant on the chrome to protect it. But to those that have had this set opened, hows the chrome holding out?

I know of the rich gold and pale gold, was curious if one or the other is holding out good versus the other.

Hoping that the chrome finish on this is better than some of my old TM BW figures which started flaking.

This set has hit post-Christmas clearance at $20, essentially making Prime free.
